Hey there,
Was surprised to find an LP function on the dvx. Does any1 know what the thought behind this was? Does LP cause any problems when capturing on fcp4? is a qt file the same wether it comes from sp shot footage or LP? Any dis/adveantages of use of LP function?

Cheers

I could only guess, but I would say the LP function was added so you could shoot longer on a tape. :)

There are a few issues with shooting in LP that precludes using LP for anything that you would deem "important":

1)Different cameras often use a different method of recording to tape for their LP mode. The result is that a tape with footage shot in LP mode on one camera may not playback properly on another camera brand/model or deck.

2)LP mode decreases the amount of tape that each field/frame takes up. As a result, there is a higher chance of dropouts (especially when the camera is in motion).

The quality of footage recorded in LP mode is exactly the same as SP mode. I often use LP mode on my cameras when I'm just messing around. When shooting anything of importance, SP is the rule.
