The Undead Nation

Re: The Undead Nation

Weird side note: Speaking of Tromettes, about a year ago, Lloyd Kaufman made an appearance in Minneapolis. I was all set to play Toxie. I'd talked to the Troma people and everything. My car broke down and I had to cancel. Cars suck sometimes.

Re: The Undead Nation

John, I LOOOOVE this undead idea, I want to be part of this somehow!!!!!
Another name could be FAR FROM ALIVE or NOT ALIVE AND KICKING or something like that, I don't know if anyone has contributed with this concept of not having the word Dead (I am lazy and skipped pages 2 to 9 in this thread), to me it just seems that the name shouldn't be that obvious. This definitely has a chance to use Iron Maiden somewhere here. Is "Eddie" their creature's name?
Let me know, I'll be more than happy to make one of these jewels.

John--can you expound a bit on the decay factor taking years? How exactly do you mean?

I just read thru this whole thread with my daughter and she has some killer ideas we will try to work on (story-wise). I like the idea of an ebola-like virus that eats at the flesh, while the brain gets worked over. Maybe preserving the reptilian brain; preverbal and instinct-driven undead! And my daughter has a SUPERfear of ebola since watching a PBS show years ago. :)

Re: The Undead Nation

I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if this is encroaching on the concept. If you like, we can make one of the monthly DVXFEST contests a Zombie edition. Summer would be good, so maybe the July contest. I'd allow any Zombie film made from January-July and I'd make sure we had some sweet prizes.

Thats some serious detail that need to be worked out; but its just classic UNDEADness...

Somehow everything has slow down into a super slow metabloic rate.

Re: The Undead Nation

Hey John...

Came up with an idea for an Undead Nation episode this weekend. Not much dialogue so I may even write it. Yeah right, I'll be calling some writer friends to help. :) But anyways, count me in on the show.

In regards to the general theme, I love that each filmmaker will have creative control over their contributions but I have some suggestions that might help with continuity:

It would be nice if the Undead Nation title was the same in each episode.

Also, what if the beginning of each episode showed something specific to the location like a monument or a highway sign. Whichever way the filmmaker wanted to incorporate it. That way uninformed viewers watching one episode after another wouldn't assume it was all supposed to take place in the same place at the same time. It would help explain there being different characters and locations, or snow on the ground in one and not in the next. Get what I'm saying?

And finally how about a place where contributors would list things specific to their episodes like character names. That way we wouldn't accidentally have a character named 'Devlin' (for example) in two unrelated episodes.

I'm just thinking of things that will help the viewer feel like they were in the same 'world' in each episode even though each episode may look and feel completely different.

Re: The Undead Nation

Hi - I'm new to the forum (just heard about it this afternoon from a poster at cumberlandunderground.com).

I think this is a great idea - a serialized story involving zombies and the undead. Where are you shooting this*? And where can one send a script? The reason I ask - i have a 20 page script i've been sitting on for about six years involving a zombie (just one). In a nutshell, the story is a father/ son tale about rebuilding a familial relationship... except the father is a zombie (think Bub... only a little older).

*If you're shooting near Maryland, I'm willing to help out in any capacity.

Re: The Undead Nation

The shooting will be done by a variety of people in many locations. This is a collaberative effort.

Re: The Undead Nation

Exactly Horse! (re: JeffH)

Hi Ex!

You have known of this particular project for quite some time; we've discussed it to great lengths. Not only would i love for you to do an epidose, but I'd love for you be involved in 'ours'. NExt time we shoot, you gotta come up!

Re: The Undead Nation

I think we should have a running timeline of events/dates so we can intersperse them between episodes, giving the shorts a sense of unity. Ie: Januray 12, 3 days before the outbreak, February 19, 1.5 billion estimated left alive, etc.

I for one want to reference this in some way in my short...

Re: The Undead Nation

Definatley. Great ideas from all.

Yes. A timeline is key I think. Viewers can jump in at whatever point they want in the world.

Also, EXfilms is spot on. Each episode must be titles UNDEAD NATION - (And then whatever the name of your short is; like an ER epsidoe for example...) and the location must be established in the short (if not already within that series)

Re: The Undead Nation

at some point john, you need to make available the opening titles, whether it is just the undead nation card or a short intro. then any contributers can download it and add it to their submission. Also just an idea, but you should try and get everyone to send you their eps full screen so that in the future when you have enough you could compile a dvd maybe. Incorporate the timeline and watch the eps sequentially.
