The Undead Nation

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
Looks like things are in finally in motion for my 'online dead serial'.  We start cutting our teeth this weekend.  For those of you that have missed this plan;

It will be an ongoing ONLINE serial based tales of the dead.  The plan is to shoot as many as we can and have them be able to tie into each other.

Also, with intentions of taking submissions from other filmmakers (using guidlelines such as mandatory 24p among others).

The webpage will pay homage to the old school "EC comics" logo and design. For example:

I am trying to come up with a name now and would love to hear some ideas and suggestions; who knows?  Maybe you will make one of these films!

So far I have:

Deadica
Tales of the Dead
Dead Apocalypse
Rise of the Dead
Dead Nation
Risen From Ash
Deadtime Stories
From the GRave
They Came From the Grave

My zombies/dead are based more on the primitive tale from Richard Matheson's I AM LEGEND with (2) types of creatures:

The mindless zombie:

1. Dead and rotting.  Slow and Fast depending on the 'fresh factor' and a flesh eater.

2. The Undead.  Based off of the Vampire myth.  This creature type is carefully being evaluated and decided upon; deatails still being worked out.  ONe thing is for sure, they will not be the Euro-Fag type (No offense to the Euro-Fag Vampires).

The purpose of this thread is for:

1. You might be interested in doing an episode and contributing to the world we are creating

2. You have some ideas or suggestions for the NAME of the project

3. You just dig the dead.

You can count on me for all three.

For whatever reason, Dead Nation sticks out to me as a cool title. I'm a sucker for zombie flicks, so this is an ultra cool idea to me.

Re: The Undead

Welcome aboard!  :D

In the next year and half or so, we will see:

Romeros Land of the Dead
The sequel to 28 Days Later
The sequal to Dawn of the Dead 04

Interest should be high for awhile. Also, there is the imminent rumor of I Am Legend finally going into production but I havent seen any shred of proof on this one.

Re: The Undead

I wanna do one. I wanna!!! I wanna!!! can I ??!!! huh?!! ;D

I'm in. and I love "They Came From the Grave"

Re: The Undead

Re: The Undead

Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing where this leads. I usually have weird zombie dreams about 3-4 times a month anyway. It'll give me somewhere to channel that.

Just don't take a walk up anyone's "Strata-chocolata".

Re: The Undead

Cool idea John. Look forward to it rolling out!

Name: Dead Nation - Hands down. IMO

Re: The Undead

Seriously this is a great idea. And you are right John. Zombies are having a renaissance. This is perfect timing. I'm working on a personal project right now but as soon as that's in the can, I'm straight on the zombie tip.

On the commentary to Vampires, JC says that Jimmy Woods improvised that line. It's so damn funny.

Re: The Undead

Killer.

The name is important at this time for me (It's that rare linear thinking that surfaces form outof my abstract mind).

I also want the site to illustarte a kind of timeline of the events; whereas submissions will fall into these timelines. If you want to see an episode that takes place years later, months later ot the day of, you will have that choice.

Re: The Undead

Re: The Undead

John Carpenter is the reason why I picked up a camera in the first place.

That sounds great! It'll give filmmakers so many more options, plus the viewer will be guaranteed a fresh viewpoint with just about every installment.

Re: The Undead

Re: The Undead

Totally!

There also has to be some kind of rules set down on this world; here are some that I have so far:

1. It is a Virus
2. You can be turned by fluid transfer (being bitten, necro)
3. The fresh ones run like track stars while the decayed and rotting are cumbersome classic style
4. Since the virus cause a sort of re-animation, the decay factor takes years (obviously for poetic license)

Re: The Undead

Re: The Undead

Wow what a great idea! The name that popped out and sticks, the one that has the hook you're looking for, is "Dead Nation."

Re: The Undead

Re: The Undead

Nice! Are you thinking of going the Romero route in terms of how they can die (hit 'em in the head), or will these be a Return of the Living Dead type where you can't really kill them unless you burn them and then... you know what happens?

Re: The Undead

Re: The Undead

LOL

I would think ROMERO's kill them in the head verson works best. Destroy the Brain.

Now, with the other species of UNDEAD that will be factored in (This is true I AM LEGEND inspiration) they are like feral primitive creatures based off of the Vampire myth; similar to the zombies, they would require decapitation. This second species is still on the burner however and not entiery sure of its inclusion into this world.

Opinons are welcome of course!

Agreed. I've always liked that.

I like the idea of the I Am Legend "vampires" too. I need to watch The Last Man on Earth again.

Re: The Undead

Re: The Undead

I will take massive inout reagrding the VAMP creatures; this one is tough to nail down
