That's the funny thing about Area 51. It was so secret, everyone knew about it.
Think of it as the "pressure relief valve" for the Air Force. People are so drawn to it, and overlook all the other "strange happenings" out in the rest of the desert.
Spooky stuff. I was out in the desert once, 40 miles outside Victorville, real nowhere'sville .........Hang on, someone is knocking on the door........
The desert stuff, that's real. I won't go too in depth, but needless to say the unmarked 4x4 Suburbans on the hill got many pics of me. Wasn't my intention, I love going out into the desert and walking/exploring for miles. You find really cool stuff out there.
And some not-so-cool stuff.
One had what looked like a big ass camera and pointed in my direction.
actually no. but the wife will give you a hassle sometimes.it would be cool to know about all this secret stuff going on, but it would suck not being able to tell anyone.

So, now we know where the RED ONE came from...
I was detained for about an hour in '89 (along with a producer) for shooting the gate/guard house from a distance for a magazine show.
No telling where that incident is on my file now.
Funny, I don't know which made me more nervous, that, or being detained in Cuba.
At least I got the tape out of the camera in Cuba and put a fresh one in before they asked for it; not so lucky at Area 51.
Ha! I still keep a tape in my HVX when I'm shooting P2 in those situations just in case.
Now I finally see a point in consumer camcorders with both removable and built-in memory.Ha! I still keep a tape in my HVX when I'm shooting P2 in those situations just in case.
