Thank you, Jan,

Panasonic is lucky to have you. Or maybe the folks that are making such great cameras are also smart enough to hire the best.

In addition to providing helpful information to your customers in public
forums, you have assisted my company early in our 24p learning curve with a timely response to a dvx100 production workflow question.

Your enthusiasm and dedication to your work is extraordinary, and I am
glad to have the opportunity to dispense some well deserved praise!

Best,

Felix

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

Sorry Flintstone!

I'm hoping for bigger CCDs as well. I'm not sure we'll get em though. In any case, the CCD size is most certainly set by now as the rest of the cam has to be developed around that :).

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

You know, once upon a time I was forced to buy a Sony PD-150 becuase the camera I wanted wasn't made yet. Then Panasonic released the DVX, which was everything I'd wanted; thanks to ebay that PD-150 eventually became a DVX100 and then a 100A. I guess what I'm saying is that Panasonic took what we all knew was POSSIBLE and made it REALITY; this enables US to take what WE know is possible, and hopefully turn those ideas into reality. Thank you so much, Jan and company.

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

Jan, I really wish you were also the Canadian Product Line Manager.
Up here above the 49th we end up paying alot more for the DVX and all professional video gear.

In addition all the value added plus's like Magic Bullet, and Barry's book and DVD's that you have added to benefit the consumer. These are great incentives for all and it's a shame it can't be shared North American wide.

I know Jarred shares my sentements(sp)

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

I share them too, as I am sure all DVXUser Canadians do too.   :'(

Actually, it's not fair... period!  Jan, I think you should usurp power and become the North American rep, not just the U.S.   :)

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

I'm a Jan fan too. I adopted the DVX very early, and I remember her on the boards then. Definitely a credit to Panasonic.

BTW, I used the new Sony last night, after only reading about it for the last few weeks. I didn't want to like it, but I must admit I was pretty impressed.

The only thing I can say is that Panasonic better be damn serious about blowing the Z1 out of the water--not just co-existing with it. This is going to be a format war which means a marketshare war and that boils down to a price war.

Panasonic needs to price the upcoming camera so that there is no reason for producers to even consider HDV, which unfortunately they are already doing in anticipation of future proofing their content for HD distribution. If producers can think HDV is "good enough", a great many will not pay for anything beyond that. That means Panasonic can't just release a better camera at only a couple grand more than the HDV option--they have to make their cameras the cheapest choice for HD content. Otherwise HDV will gain ground, which benefits no one except Sony.

Anyways, Jan is great and I'm sure she understands these issues. I just hope Panasonic intends to make HDV obsolete and does what is necessary.

Can some one give me the link to this Jan post.. Thanks!

"Frankly interframe compression, 4:2:2 color space, uncompressed audio, and real 24P will surpass the HDV format any day.  Oh and edit systems that work in the native codec, today.  I think when it all comes out, this will be the hottest camera in the marketplace.  I wish I could tell you all more, but soon it will be clear."[/quote]

Hi Mike,

That is the extent of the post. and then the other day I read it and went "doh" and hit myself on the forehead. Then I went and found this post and corrected it to say:

Interframe is like MPEG2. But these are the facts about the new camera and it will blow the doors off HDV.

Hope that is helpful,

Jan

And even i appreciate Jan! and i'm the one that absolutely hates rebates and anything to do with them...by the way, I have yet to recieve DVRacks rebate from December, yes, you know what I'm thinking ##&%$#$#.

..anyways...Thanks Jan for your help here. I wish other Reps were as good as you. Maybe they'll make you the VP of North American Sales! ...PS: make sure we get really good stuff on the new camera, i know you will. Thanks again

Thanks Jan! I´m little new on here and i fall in love with this place, the people, and what it means (that´s something new in the world). I know i should say i fall in love with you, but then my fiancee would kill me 8)

I know proably all people here are grinning thinking in the new camera and the shock is going to cause between the HDV plotters. They will be destroyed, all their plans ruined, and will have to start again with another name. They should call themselves what they are: Big Boys United For The Sake of Interlaced Cavemen Technology BBUFTSICT. You probaly burst Canon project on HDV and make them look for a replacement by now. Yeah! more grinning! ;D

Thaks again Jan! You make life more interesting to look!

I just wish we had some sort of idea of how long till the camera actually hits the streets.

The Varicam sells cameras. If these cameras made ugly pictures I would expect you all not to buy them or rent them.

When this new camera hits, you will see."

jan,

you continue to amaze me! love the confidence you show in the upcoming hdx. i know we won't be disappointed. :)

I know someone who bought a Panasonic SVHS camera from Jan back in 1987 when she was a sales rep in Rockville, Maryland. So she's been a real person for at least that long.

Hey, someone from my old stomping grounds. I loved the DC area. Lived there from 1985 though 1999. Living large. Ha, Ha! Knew more about the President than I cared to. Reagan, Bush and Clinton. Anything they did was news. Probably feels that way a GWB today. But yes, I was the District Sales Manager back then. One of the best jobs in our company. Although this one is not bad.

Say hi to all my friends Hon. (Baltimorian phrase there. ;-))

Best,

Jan

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

I'll add my thanks to Jan here as well. I appreciate a company as huge as Panasonic having a product rep that's this involved in public discourse about that product.

And here's hoping this sincere sentiment can also serve as a bit of grease for the following inquiry ;D.

I bought the DVX-100a less than a year ago to serve as a second camera on traditional 60i event shoots and to double as my entre to single-camera, film-style dramatic production in 24P, which is where my real ambitions lie. I've been googling "matte box" and monitoring every matte box sale on ebay for weeks, going back and forth all the while on which models offer the best qualtiy/price ratio and on whether I want to try to integrate a matte box solution with the as yet unpurchased anamorphic lens (in which case there are only two matte box options, one at well over $1600.) As the new HDX camera has me VERY intrigued and thinking I might replace my big "event" camera (Sony DSR-300) with it after it hits the market, I'm wondering if I should postpone purchase of a matte box in anticipation that a matte box purchased for the DVX wouldn't fit the HDX.

Jan, am I right to be concerned about the easy adaptability to the new camera of a matte box bought to fit the DVX-100 . . . a matte box like, for example, the Formatt 500?

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

The only thing I can say is that if it is important for it to fit the new camera, then you should wait till more specs are available.

Sorry,

Jan

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

Re: The, "Thank you Jan Crittenden" Thre

Wisdom would dictate waiting if at all possible... something like the Formatt would seem to be a relatively safe choice, given that it works with step-down rings to fit a variety of lens diameters, but until we know the configuration of the new camera, there's no way to know whether it would work without vignetting, etc. I mean, if the new camera has a supremely wide wide-angle, it's possible the edges of the mattebox would show up in the frame... if it has a nonstandard attachment ring size, perhaps there wouldn't be an adapter... things like that are unknown.
