The SLR Lens/RED Compatibilty Thread

Now that we have a couple brilliant threads going devoted to lenses and their qualities, what do you think of starting a thread devoted to facts and informed speculation on which slr lenses are likely to have RED mounts (official or third-party), which electronic functions are likely (and which unlikely) to be accessible, and other pertinent related info. This would be a thread not about qualities of particular lenses, but about the likeness of being able to use particular brands/mounts of lenses. For instance, I'm curious whether Canon and Nikon crop sensor lenses are likely to work. In some ways they seem like a natural fit since they're optimized for dslrs with sensors of a similar size to the Mysterium. This could be a clearinghouse for existing information and a natural place to post new info as it comes up.

Food for thought

Jim Jannard quote from my published interview (4/06) with him:

"There are certainly other camera companies out there with their own proprietary lens mounts - Canon and Nikon quickly come to mind - that provide 35mm compatibility. We don’t have anything formally in place, so we certainly can’t announce a deal with any of those companies, but if they’re listening, we’d certainly like to get that finished."

Whether Canon and Nikon mounts are RED-produced, or 3rd party-produced, or both, will remain to be seen. It's obvious that RED recognizes the interest and practicality of someone making a Canon and Nikon mount, or mount adapters for use on RED. If RED doesn't make them, no doubt a 3rd party manufacturer will.
