But it shoots in DVCPRO50....

Or DV25. It's switchable. It also is switchabe 16:9 or 4:3, 24P or 30P or 60i. It can do basically everything a standard-def camcorder should.

I'm a fan of big heavy cameras, personally.

It's like in motorcycles, the small plastic rice burners are nimble, quick, and responsive, but you've got to be on top of it at all times to stay in control.

The big hogs are heavy, lumbering, and stubborn, but once they're going they essentially drive themselves.

I guess I'm just a hog guy.

Panasonic also had a DVCProHD camera that was annouced and shown as prototype. In talking to the rep, they mentioned they weren't heading the same HDV route as Sony or JVC. DVCProHD on flash media in a camera the same size of the DVX100... that's what got me excited.. price on the flash media is outrageous still and Sony will have the market share with XDCam gear until Panny lowers their media prices...

it does look like that Fisher Price video camera they used to sell back in the day! I saw that article back in April but it never said anything about that being the next DVX100 or DVX200 or whatever...

Ahhh, the PXL2000- 90 lines of resolution, 15 fps, black and white, and all on an audio cassette. The best camcorder I've ever owned.

Well, maybe second best.

Re: The Second Coming.. DVX2 is unveiled

can someone explain the data rate of Mbps on the dvx please? why and how it works? and please explain the benefits of having a higher mbps on a mini-dv. I'm asking because I don't know anything, I mean, I know nothing about it.

thanks

Re: The Second Coming.. DVX2 is unveiled

There's nothing to know. Digital Video, as defined by the DV spec, runs at 25 megabits per second, no matter what camera or recording standard. There are no options.

There are higher-end cameras that use milder compression systems (like DVCPRO50) but those aren't "DV" cameras.

So it's a moot point, all DV is 25 megabits per second.

More megabits can theoretically mean increased quality, but in DV it's not an option.
