The rest of the suite

Ugh. It's all speculation. No way to know what we will see. I can surely say what I'd like to see: Blu-Ray in Compressor and DVDSP.

As far as Color, I think that one has been incorporated (mostly) into FCP X along with STP. That pretty much leaves Compressor and DVDSP for major updates.

I bet compressor will be more like a widget. Open files and "save as" with provisions for batch prossesing

As far as dvdsp goes I still need to be able to make DVDs but honestly in 3 years only a handful of folks have asked for bluray

I would like to see us as small producers be able to deliver online
Now I know some other things have to happen first but how sweet would it be for our content to apear on our clients dvr or apple tv

I'm betting Compressor will be implemented into FCP X...somehow. At least, it will be completely re-written. If FCP X is not operating on QT structure anymore (which is still just a possibility), then Compressor will lose half of its usability with FCP X. Lots of IF's.

The ONLY way that DVDSP can be updated is with BD. I mean, what else could they possibly do to DVDSP? It's a pretty solid app for DVD authoring. Albeit, it's 5 years old?

There are five or so solutions for blu ray right now on a Mac.

If you have paying clients, you can select one of those solutions, and use it if you want.

Again, please address the OP's question. Comments good or bad about Apple's marketing strategies do not assist the OP.

Apple and general public is slowly moving away from Digital Media. I bet you won't get Blu Ray DVD Studio Pro at all and might get lucky to encode files on DVD. Case in point is when Mac Book Air came out, Apple had external burner than of course we have laptops etc.

If you look around everything is becoming digital now. I am handing more clients digital files for youtube, vimeo or their website.

The quick look I saw in the FCPX demo was in no way a replacement for all that Color can currently do.

I hope that they better integrate the full functionality over the "easy button" we saw.

My guess is we'll see the majority of Compressor, Color, and Soundtrack Pro folded into FCP X.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see DVDSP and Motion just die on the vine, honestly.

Basically, I'm assuming we're looking at one app from here on out - instead of a suite.
But who knows. It's anyone's guess at this point.

I think Motion will remain as a standalone app.

Soundtrack? Don't know. Maybe they'll fold some of it's more video oriented features into Logic, and open up and modernize the audio tools in FCP a bit more.

Color? I'd love to see more of it's functionality inside FCP, but I also like using it as a standalone. But Color has always been a little half baked in how things are implemented. The file dialogs alone could really stand to be improved. There's no way to search, etc.

They showed Color-styled vignettes for color correction, and they mentioned secondary color rooms. I saw the video when it was first put up, and I think I remember some talk about tracking. If the interface and scopes are there, that would be most of Color. I didn't see any mention of what would have been the "color fx room." I thought that the "easy button" was a modification--or improvement--of the automatic correction option in Color.

I would like to see FCP to have "modes" sort of like the tabs in color where you just flip a switch and your in the color grading mode where it flattens your timeline (temporarily) and lets you do all the things you can do in color and then you can step back into editing mode if you need to and have the color grading take place in the background along with everything else.

STP was always hard for me to get around in so i wont miss it in the least. dvd Sp should incorporate some method for me to deliver content online in the way i can share files via mobile me file sharing.

If the Logic effects, which were included in STP, are gone, I will have to do post in sound in "Logic X," if that ever comes out, or in ProTools. Now STP was entirely unstable. I wouldn't miss it for that reason.

STP was also set up to do effect chains instead of only rendered effects. Perhaps, that is now built in.
