The quest for PAL edit-solution (in FCP) (maybe for Jan?)

Hi.

I'm editing in Final Cut Pro - PAL - land, and sorta all of a sudden saw a big potential problem.

The HVX records at 25p/50p, while FCP edits in:

# HD at 1080i 50/60, 1080p 23.98/24, and 720p 23.98/30/60

As the PAL HVX doesn't support 24p in either 720 or 1080 but only 25p/50p, what are my options?

Will we get a FCP update as the camera is released?
OR: Can we do some sort of conform 25@24 while editing and do a similar speedup when finished?

It's allready there. :)
Go to your browser, right- (or ctrl-) click the sequence you made in DVCPROHD codec (1080 or 720) and choose settings. In the dialog box you see 'edit timebase'. Change that to 50 and 'field order' to none. Should be fine.
Works for me and I'm on a FCP 4.5

But the appropriate codecs (like 50i in 1080) will be here soon, I'm pretty sure...

OK, thanks a lot!

But.... hm...
Have you tried this?

One thing I've been thinking of is to order the option with 4x 4gb cards and then capture directly to FCP while cards are offloaded. Will need some planning, but still...

This aint gonna work then, I guess.

Well the clips I took off the net play just fine this way. But that's because they're allready digitized offcourse. So capturing will be an issue. But I think it will be a non-issue by the time the PAL version HVX arrives. Apple has been one of the first to back-up DVCPRO completely. They advertised the whole DVCPRO over firewire together with Panny! So they should get that straight in time... I hope :)
