nobody answered me the last time so i'll try it again: do you get rolling even at the matching shutter speed? at let's say 1/60 each line should be exposed to exactly 2 pulses of light under 60hz flos so there should be no difference between them. this works to remove flicker and roll with every other camera i've ever used, from film to the d90. i'm not sure what could possibly be different about the gh1.CFLs are not giving me rolling lines. Just older Fluorescents and Sodium Vapors
sold one, keeping the other indefinitely. alas the gh1 hasn't impressed me with its image quality. it looks like mediocre video from 5-10 years ago just with less dof. i'm sure when it's time for my next feature, next summer most likely, neither of today's cameras will be our choice.ready to ditch your D90's yet Matt?
didn't i just say that i think it's technically better? some people simply have the ability to see different aspects of things and discuss them separately. try it. it's fun.I don't understand how can GH1 be "mediocre" if you consider D90 as a viable solution...
Any format from the GH1 (AVCHD 17mbps 1080p24, AVCHD 17mbps 720p60, mjpeg 720p30) looks nicer than the crappy compression from D90. I don't understand how can GH1 be "mediocre" if you consider D90 as a viable solution...
great sensor*great compression=great result. are you saying you don't want that or you don't think it can be done? is it wrong to be disappointed by a camera that doesn't deliver it if you were hoping it would? if you search the boards you'll find that i was one of the biggest proponents for this camera before it was released.Good Sensor*Crappy compression=Crappy result
Medium Sensor*Medium compression=Medium result
i haven't studied it and haven't even used the gh1, but possibly latitude, color fidelity, "depth", sensitivity, i don't know. that's what i thought we could discuss, but everyone seems obsessed with bitrates and pixels. so far i haven't seen anything from the gh1 that looks anywhere near as nice as the best d90 stuff i've seen, *despite* the problems. In what aspect is the D90 sensor better than GH1's ?
the d90 shoots cinematic images with great latitude, smooth highlights, pure colors, nice film like shadows, while the gh1 looks like cheap video, consumer hdv/avchd more or less only with less dof."the d90 the image looks much better to my eye"
can you be more specific ?
so far i haven't seen anything from the gh1 that looks anywhere near as nice as the best d90 stuff i've seen,
what's interesting is why. the 5d takes the most beautiful pictures, no doubt, with the d90 second in my opinion, but neither have manual controls and 30p is useless, and the d90 uses too much compression. the gh1 has manual control, 24/25p and a much better codec than the d90, but the image just doesn't look as good to me. anybody agree or disagree?I think GH1 is the best out of the 5 - Canon 5DMkII, Canon 500D, Nikon D90, Nikon D5000, Lumix GH1
