The Panasonic G1HD | GH-1 Video Mode : A Real Video Mode

How could aliasing possibly be a function of the lens!?

I was told it's possible by someone with reputation on these very boards. Can you tell me how it is in NO way possible, in that case?

Squig -- Anything behind 50mm I see aliasing. I'm still doing some shooting and testing back and forth. I don't know about the codec stuff.

Well, it would make sense that aliasing would only show up if the image is really sharp, and if the lens is soft or out of focus you're getting essentially some natural "antialiasing". But still, that's a problem with the sensor aliasing, it's not the lens' fault. There's probably something I'm missing though.

try a lower bit-rate, maybe we can determine then if it's related to the codec. Is it the same in wel/low lit scenes? and static/moving scenes?

I hope it's the lens. I have no problem with believing in that and finding out for myself, with my own hands, if it's the glass or not. I love my wides and the thought of them being contaminated with jagged lines freaks me the hell out.

It's the one thing I hated about 35mm Adapters, wides often looked HORRID. UGH.

If I'm back to that with the GH-1 I'm not gonna be too happy. Most people won't really care about it, wides are a big deal to me personally.

I've tried it with and without my polarizer and now I'm about to break out the NDs to see if I can soften the image enough to where the aliasing is reduced to nothing at the wide end.

It's the only thing I can do until my Nikon and Contax adapters arrive.

Indeed

are you seeing the aliasing straight out of the camera or after it's been through a conversion?

Everywhere. Out of Camera, On the Camera's LCD, After Conversion, Before Pulldown.

It's there.

It's good you found this before the worldwide release. maybe some pressure can be applied to panasonic to fix it, particualrly if the D400 is announced soon with a better HD spec

I'd like to see it. Flickr? Photobucket? Megaupload? The later is really easy to create and account on so you could zip up your images, even uncompressed, and upload them pretty quickly there.....

not seeing it on phil's or hunters???

WIDES. I keep sayign this. WIDES.

It happens in WIDES.

One more time.................. WIDES

In either of those examples do you see ANY wide shots? Check Barry's first posts, it's the same aliasing he got at the top of that sign.

It's DEFINITELY there, already had three others confirm it.

It's just like the Mark II Aliasing going on. Dunno why, but it's there.

Someone host the stills and I'll give 'em to ya. Don't want to sign up for extraneous websites just to host stills. Sorry.

EDIT: OOPS.. This is an answer to something somewhere else!:

Its just like dvcproHD tape in 720p mode, even though it records 60p, if you choose 24p it only uses the 24p frames. So here if you drop a 720/60p file on a 24p timeline, you just drop the frames needed to get 24p (this happens automatically)- and because it divides evenly, footage will play just as smooth as shooting 24p originally.
