The Panasonic G1HD | GH-1 Video Mode : A Real Video Mode

I got my DVX100 the month they came out, this feels very similar... I bet the next revisions of all the major NLE's will do the pulldown for you. Except for Avid, that wil take 2 years.

Please- I just need to be put out of my misery. I keep coming here over and over looking and hoping to see evidence one way or the other. Hope or no hope?

Well, I believe the best thing to do is do like the Japanese did, buy the camera when it becomes available and test it myself. If I am really interested in a piece of equipment I take what the others have done with it as I general idea of what it can do or not. Did it with the HVX200, which I love, and the D90, which I hate as a cinema camera and love as a still camera. The best thing is that where I buy my cameras I have 7 days to return them and thats plenty of time to decide for myself based on my own very own tests. There is nothing like seeing what you can do or not with any tool yourself.

All I want is double the mjpeg bit-rate of the D90, manual control, and a sensor that doesn't keep my lunch warm. I'm easy to please.

John how are we going to make a return on our investment?

For you, your Epic! The GH1 looks looks like the camera for that.

this is the first time i'm hearing this. i'm stunned. wish you would have said something sooner.

Don't worry, it looks that the D90, movie mode of course, will be out of my brain soon. Then you'll get tired of me praising the GH1, hopefully.

If you don't have NeoHD from Cineform download a demo - it will do a proper pulldown removal during transcoding and it's a MUCH better codec than ProRES (not knocking ProRES I use it everyday)

If the camera is in stores in Japan, it means that it is ready. Why in the world is it taking that long to be available in the US or in Europe?

Is there a logical explanation? Do they need time to ship or can we hope for improvements? (not tying to say that it is not good)

The best thing about Cameras and most technology is that you dont' have to buy it if you don't like it! Crazy!!!

if you don't have anything to shoot then you can wait, wait wait and wait more for a camera.

The funnest part is when salivating over a camera can be justified by having a full blown project to shoot immediately. Then it's real fun.

Kholi,

Do you think you will be able to update your Japanese GH1 with firmware that will give you the option of English Menus when it becomes available? Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. And don't worry, you can post flower and tree footage and we will still enjoy it. ;P

dude, there's not going to be a firmware to give you english menus when they're going to release the camera for US market by end of June or earlier.

They have to manufacture the cameras. The manufacturing process for complex product always takes time to ramp up, and in the early days there are issues that cause rework, resulting in higher production costs and lower production volumes. Launching in Japan lets them also make sure there aren't any unknown issues before rolling out to the rest of the world.

At the very least, it will likely take them a few weeks to ramp up enough volume to be able to meet initial demand in the rest of the world.

Car3o,

I don't think you understood the question. What I meant was at a later date when the US market camera is released can Kholi update his camera with that US firmware and get English Menus. Got it? ;P

I bet when a firmware update becomes available for US cameras, you could download the US version and get english menus. At least I hope so.
