The Panasonic G1HD | GH-1 Video Mode : A Real Video Mode

That night footage was shot 1080 on the camera right? If so it goes to show that with the proper processing you will be able to get some nice stuff with it. Nowadays there are so many powerful programs to correct basically anything workable in post. There are pros out there that do magic to footage in post production. It is just a matter of learning the best possible way to finish your work. Somebody should start working on a book or training DVD on the best way to handle the 1080 output, and 720p also, from the GH1 in post. It should include the best solutions for both Mac and PC based programs.

I stated that I stil thought the Mark II had the better lowlight performance...

I realize that I am STILL on the F4 zoom now. Good grief, I can't wait until my damned contax adapter comes in.

That night footage is insane. And to think, just last night I light a face in pitch blackness with an iPhone, camera @ 1000 ISO and it was awesome.

It's so on when I get my adapter.
Right...that is what I was pointing out. I think this cam will surprise us with faster lens.

Oh...I'm with you on the andromeda thingy....I was thinking that the other day.

Yeah, I can tell immediately by looking at the powerline jaggies. At least I hope that was 1080 not 720.

Call me crazy...but I'm beginning o think its low light footage might be just about as good as the Mark ll. Look at that video again and check out the skyline. This is the first time we are able to see the sky without it being pitch black. This reminds me of 5D low light footage. We have all been seeing mostly the slow stock lens on this cam...but a fast lens will probably make this cam shine. Just speculating.

I'm really not having issues with skies in the daytime either. Not even when holding it out of the car window while driving like this.

low light as good as the mkII!

woohoo!

just sold my D90

I've got some really nice lenses for this baby

So Kholi. I want to understand this correctly. You shoot 720p60, start a 24p project on your NLE then drop the 60p footage straight to the timeline and thats it? It is not slow motion then? And it will have the "filmic look"?

Quite literally.

Only other thing I did and compared was turning frame blending on and off. Someone said that without Frame Blending it on it was exactly like 24P to him. I liked the Frame Blending on, it looked silky smooth but still 24P to me.

The sound was still in sync as well, from camera.

Kholi, with all said and tested up to this point, where do you see the GH1 along side or instead of the HVX200/HPX170?

Side by side: HVX200A (my favorite HVX200) gets decimated in 720 purely on image aesthetic. The technical nod (Chroma Sampling, Consistent Compression, DVCproHD in general) goes to the 200A.

But I absolutely abhor the HVX200 and HPX170 image.

This camera is a keeper. Regardless of the 1080, the 720 sells it all on it's own.

Your not crazy, it's quite good.

Here is the 5dMII vs the GH1.... Very interesting.

Yeah, I really thought the MKii had the better lowlight. I'm definitely retracting that statement.

And you guys can blame vimeo for not letting me upload footage. I tried to get you a DVXuser only clip but it threw an error on me.

Mark II's compression versus GH-1's 1080 compression looks so much better to me. Even the aliasing on the Mark II looks like it's better controlled.

Regardless, GH-1 still rocks.

That is the one thing I covet from the mark 2, that codec is really nice. Hopefully Canon doesn't let this tech and their awesome codec go to waste on the video camera side of their product line.

Still though, I think the GH1 holds up nicely compared to the other two. I just need to see some more footage to determine whether or not the aliasing at 1080 is going to bother me and if the codec is strong enough for my tastes (I shoot with an HDV cam now, and haven't been spoiled with Red One or HPX3000 footage).

Wow... I'd love to see more of this. The GH-1 looks to be less contrasty out of the box than the 5Dll...and the picture is just as nice...at least more pleasing than the other cameras in these clips. You can see more in the shadows.

wth any luck the GH1 will push canon to bring out something with a DX sized sensor and manual control. and 23.5p
