The Official "Next Fest" Idea Submission Thread

I've posted this basic sentiment in one of the film threads, but something I am noticing and REALLY appreciating about this fest (and the reason I came out of woodwork to do a film) is the great variety of styles, genres, etc. that the films all have! This is really refreshing and keeps 48 films from getting old, old, old.

So on that note I'd really strongly recommend that any future theme be something as open-ended and rich and emotion-based as "betrayal". That's a meaty subject that you can approach from any of a thousand angles – whereas something like FantasyFest or WesternFest or anything else of the sort seems to really stifle that freedom of expression and scare some people who might have made really interesting and good films away! I think LossFest also made this pretty clear.

Some ideas on that note:

Jealousy
Revenge
Obsession
Fear
Compulsion
Regret
Victory
Power
Discovery

damn Doug you eat me to it. I was goign to come in and quote you too.

DiscoveryFest resonates well with me... the possibilities are endless...

I noticed the current ScriptFest. I say HitchcockFest and bring back the required item, making it anything the filmmaker wants as long as it's a MacGuffin. That could make things real interesting. I also think that it would be great publicity for DVXuser to surround a fest around Hitchcock... should make the news in the various filmmaker, festival, and movie outlets all around.

I'm liking that idea.

"eat" "eating" lol...

pretty good suggestions Doug...

on the other side of it, maybe in the future I wouldn't mind doing a specific theme if it's something like:
"Scarface" or one called "Mafia" something that specific could be fun! and challenging like trying to make realistic looking blood, actors being able to pull it off and etc, etc......

Argh, not Hitchcock, I'd rather do a Fellini fest. The open ended fest idea is a good one but I wouldn't mind a closed ended one either since it spawns creativity. There is so much talent on this site I would love to see everyone have to make a space movie or a Sci-Fi film or a period piece. There are a lot of other pretty good filmmakers besides Hitchcock we could have a fest around as well. Sergio Leone, Cassavetes, Ford, Coppala. Why not a TarantinoFest?

Maybe it shouldn't be themed on a certain director, I can't imagine sitting through 50 Tarantino, Hitchcock, or Leone entries. Where as a monster, betrayal, loss, time-fest leave a lot of room for individual interpretation.

That's what I'm getting at. I don't think I could handle watching 10 shorts with [probably mostly fake/bad] New York Italian accents, let alone 50.

TarantinoFest is fun for the small percentage of people who want to do movies like Tarantino. For everyone else, it's a turn-off.

The more open the concept, the better.

Personally, I think we should have InvestorFest, where someone ponies up the money to make these $&#^*! things.
