C100: The new Sigma 50mm

I've never used the lens, but my problem with the new Sigma lenses are the focus throw. The 35, 50, and old 85 all have a focus throw of 90 degrees. I just don't find that enough for following focus on low depth of field.

I do love the Zeiss lens, it's my favorite next to my Sigma 18-35. On occasion I do miss the AF on the Zeiss when I take the lens to shoot stills though.

This lens and the Sigma 18-35 would be a great combo on the C100. I'm definitely waiting on it but the key for me will be how the bokeh compares to the Canon 50mm 1.2L.

The Sigma 35 can be a bit scratchy.

Well I pre-ordered the new Sigma 50 f 1.4 ART. I’ve been waiting forever for a super fast 50mm and Sigma was the first to have a high end version that seems like a winner. The Canon L I’m sure is great but a lot of complaints about auto focus and the price is high so I waited.

Rokinon is still “working” on a 50mm…….

This new lens is being compared to the Zeiss OTUS not a MAKRO. The 55mm OTUS is a $4K lens!

I absolutely love the Sigma 18-35 and the new ART 50mm is going to get a lot camera time right along side the 18-35. When I was shooting with a AF-100 my favorite lens was the Voigtlander 25mm 0.95. I used it all the time for talking head shot compositions. I think this new lenses is going to serve me the same. Cant wait for it to be available for delivery.

@Eric samyang has been acquired by sigma. Don't know if we'll ever see a 50mm cinestyle from them, but I'm confident

It's a good setup, i'm considering it too.

It is the equivalent to walking around with a fast 35 and 85 combination for photography on a full frame.

At all apertures or just wide open? This was one of the issues with the Sigma lenses and the C100 in the past.

just ran the test again and i'm happy to confirm that it is fast AF at all apertures. I'm using it with Dual Pixel upgrade body.

I dont have the upgrade however on the 70D it clicks like crazy while focusing in video mode.

Thanks for that info Erik! Its a bad surprise! I was thinking to buy that lens for my 70D and I was hoping it would be as perfect as the 18-35mm with the Dual Pixel AF...
Do you think those ''clicks'' will be recorded if using an on camera mic like the Rode VMP? With that setup and the 18-35mm I never have a problem.
Also, how is it in terms of focus? Is it accurate and smooth like the 18-35mm?
Thanks in advance!
