GH2 the new ptool is here! Based on new firmware. From Vk

I look forward to testing Vitaliy's new software soon. Higher data-rate 30p (and 25p?) will be welcome additions to the tool box. I wonder if Panasonic's new 1.1 firmware together with Vitaliy's improvements can result in lower-noise video? Here's hoping.

1080/30P is one of the last pieces of the puzzle in this camera for me. Not having to shoot 60i for interviews and broadcast material is definitely welcomed. Not sure what else can be squeezed out of camera but this is pretty great. Gotta find some extra change to donate again.

playing with it now. havent applied any bitrate patch yet but im testing the 12800 iso. looks great in B&W.

man, im not up to date. Kholi, can you fill me in? lol. Im still using Quantam V2 :)

I'm about to buy my first gh2 and plan to hack it. In laymans terms what is significant about this development in ptools?

You can use the hacks + Panasonic's v1.1 enhancements. Before this version, if you wanted to use a hack, it'd have only Panasonic's v1.0 firmware.

This is huge!!! Finally i can have 25p, like all my other cameras! Will all the patches be just as stable as with the older ptools or is it risky to update right now?

All existing settings should work, I've been shooting with the new firmware modified with the Quantum 9b settings today and not noticed any problem.

EDIT : Sorry. Scratch that, some settings files will not behave the same way with this new version of Ptool, so its a wait-awhile thing or use new settings files for this version of Ptool.

Thanks to the diligence of our wonderful crew of writers. There are already a few new patches designed for the newest pTools and firmware.
So far so good, I have successfully patched my camera using the modest
Driftwood Quantum 100 v3

I played with Driftwood's other patches, but for my needs - Events - im using standard Transcend C-10 32G cards, and so I dont need anything "pushing the limits"
I'm really digging the new HBR and improved noise reduction features. Of course ill have a better idea of the camera's improvements, once im editing another event.
I'll keep a few cards with the standard firmware, and of course the tried and tested patches... just incase all goes south during an event. (I have 2 other cameras recording as well, so im safe to play with the new patches.)
Ill find out more once i sit down with the upgrade and mill through the settings, but while i have the "mic", how the heck does one shoot 25p and 30p with the new patch? Are there more settings to HBR that im not seeing? Cinema is ALWAYS 24p... correct?

Think i figured it out.. fyi for others.
Depending on the region you set (PAL/NTSC) HBR mode will shoot in either 30p or 25p. Cinema is going to always be 24p.

I have just tried the QUANTUM 100 + FOUR with 1.1 (32 gb sandisk extreme class 10). 24p works as usual, gives me about 41 minutes of recordingtime with 24p cinema. In HBR mode/25p I get a little over 1 hour? Shouldn't the recording time be the same? Randomly the recording stops with the messeage that the card isn't fast enough when I'm in HBR mode.

24p 1080 has 95845 kbit/s

25p 1080 has 67562 kbit/s

720 50p has only 19734 kbit/s (but gives me the same recordtime as 1080 25p even if the kbit/s is mucn lower)

Most of the well-tested settings files for use with Vitaliy Kiselev's PTool GH2 firmware modification utility software are on his site in this thread:

Of course, the settings posted before a few days ago had only been tested for use with Vitaliy's previous PTool software. Reportedly the older settings should work with the new PTool, too, but YMMV.

In general, the conservative settings Vitaliy describes in the pop-up help text within PTool itself are a safe starting point for your own testing.

Many improvements are still to be made these days I think. Running the Driftwood Quantum X v1 (Incorporating The Driftwood Matrix) and it works fine.

Something tells me to use older patches with v1.1 with caution...
