The new Mac Pro coming later this year (take a look).

For as much as this thing is going to cost, we should at least have a Nvidea option, never been a fan of anything ATi.....
This is what you will see when you try to start DaVinci Resolve 9 with an ATI graphic card without Nvidia Cuda Emulator :

Apple design is very much influenced by the industrial design of the Braun company. People are already saying the new Mac Pro looks like the 1972 Braun KF 20 coffee maker
designed by Florian Seiffert.

Yeah, that's why every Android phone looks like this?

I bet when you all walk into pro environments a year from now and see the MACpro sitting there you will all be envious.

Last week at an industry function I saw Iphones everywhere and only one Android knockoff....Just saying...

Paid 10K ish for mine in 2008. So betting this thing will not be cheap. I was hoping mine would last till this update but the Mac Pro had other ideas & died 6 weeks ago. As a holding pattern I got new 32G I Mac which handles raw files easily so I'm sort a questioning if I need another Mac Pro.

In regards to Davinci operating without Cuda apparently Davinci 10 supports open CL. Hence BM's statement about "never been happier' ...but they would have to say that would they?

Nothing wrong with the new iMacs. They are awesome!

For high end professional use I need many GPU cards that I can upgrade without buying a new computer - things like RedRockets, raid cards, etc and I need CUDA. Thunderbolt 2 is not a fast enough pipeline to run GPU cards, except at crippled speed, and thsi stupid thing does not seem to have PCI slots at all! What an annoying toy this new Mac Pro is. I am switching to PC.

I agree with dusty and it's NOT because I'm an Apple fanboy. I havent changed my icon since about 2008, and I've got a home-built PC running Windows 8 (which is pretty underwhelming).

What would you want to put in it? A better graphics card? It's got two great ones already. An I/O device? You don't need anything better than the SIX 20Gb/s Bi-Directional ports on the back. More storage? Attach storage, fill it, and remove it easily with external hardware.

I can't imagine what else you want to install in it that it doesn't provide for already. If you see Thunderbolt as being PCIExpress, but faster, then you get the picture and this thing makes sense.

it has no CUDA at all. I repeat - No. Cuda. It's not just Adobe that depends on Cuda, lots of other lesser-known pro apps do.

Not surprised this is a contentious design since the old one had some of the best-designed expansion of its day.

That said, they're obviously betting big on Thunderbolt as the future of computer expansion, and I can't really argue with that. For legacy gear, Sonnet and Magma make Thunderbolt PCIe chasses. Most of the new tech from Blackmagic and AJA come in Thunderbolt varieties, and it'll only move more in that direction.

The only really limiting factor over the last design that I can see is its proprietary graphics card, but they seem to have picked a good one to start with. And the aftermarket Mac graphics card market was never exactly booming...

I'm really hoping that with the efficiencies created by such a small, engineered design, they'll be able to bring this in at a lower price point— Something like $1699 for an entry model (maybe 4-core CPU and single GPU rather than the 12-core/dual GPU beast they showed today) would be huge.

Thunderbolt PCie chassis are very slow - You might get half performance off something as mundane as a GTX 570. People overestimate the power of Thunderbolt

My comment was actually a compliment. I love Braun designs, especially the work of Dieter Rams. The KF-20 is an outstanding example of beautiful industrial design, IMO.

Yeh full spec'd I Macs are great & just $2.5K....... could buy a new one every year.

Which is maybe why IMO this New Mac Pro will be sitting around $3.5 K entry level....be nice of it was.

On other forums people are talking about the intergrated graphics cards & what this may mean for upgrades. ie you need to buy a new Mac Pro to update the card . Not sure about this as it seems to me there is plenty of options for 3rd party externals. But either way this may indicate a more disposable Mac Pro than previous with a lower price than previously thought.

It looks like a black coffee thermos. Inspiration from Apple's break room. OMG, I was supposed to turn that design in after lunch!
