C200: The new Canon C200 with 4K

I was at one of the 'large motorsports events' going on today and I walked in and sat my C300 w/17-120 down on a table so I could talk to some friends before I left(lucky me not having to stay to the end). It was in front of where Canon/CPS was set-up and a rep walked up, looked at my rig and simply said, "Watch the website the day after tomorrow", which will be Tuesday.

Something like independent confirmation of a Tuesday announcement on Twitter.

It looks great. Although the LCD looks insanely complex. I wonder if it can be used without the handle.

There is a thumbwheel screw on the front of the handle below the LCD. Looks like the LCD can be removed. Also the audio controls are now on the back of the camera. The handle can be removed completely if desired.

Looks like it's gonna be like the C300. Will be able to place the monitor module where we want on the top handle. I have a feeling this will be a touch screen...just a feeling :)

Btw do you saw that? C200 will have one joystick attached to the body. It will be awsome if it will have two, second on a handgrip.

We should know more tomorrow if the rumors are true of the announcement. Makes me wonder how those pics were leaked unless Canon did it purposefully.

If it's DPAF functions like the face tracking on my 80D, at least with a touchscreen as a way to do it and if it had the joystick control like the C300 MKII, that would be pretty cool. Love the DPAF and FT on my 80D when using it on the gimbal.

Second might be on the monitor / monitor unit.

From what I can make out, the handgrip looks the same as the C300 Mark ii, so it should have a joystick — hopefully won't be identical to the C300's, which doesn't let you push in the joystick to access functions (if it is, there's a workaround: reassign the button next to the joystick).

I'm actually excited that the XLR ports are in the body. Stacking an additional monitor on the C100 bodies always made the camera way too tall and unwieldy in my opinion. But now that the handle can be removed without losing audio recording, that shouldn't be a problem anymore. Maybe someone will develop a cheeseplate that can mount both a top handle and a monitor at the same level.

I know that there were some weird ghosting/trailing artifacts on the XC10 and C300ii. Any word on whether that's been resolved? I haven't been following it, since I don't own either camera. That's the one thing that could steer me away from this camera.

The artifacts are from the NR. The latest firmware allows you to shut off the NR completely, eliminating this "feature", at least on the C300 MKII. I know there was a fairly recent firmware update for the XC10, not sure if this was included though.

Canon developed an XLR input for the C300 II and the XC-15 that separated the XLR's and audio controls from the monitor and handle. It looks like the C200 now has the monitor separated from the audio controls which would be a nice addition. Canon will now have a monitor, XLR interface, combined monitor/XLR, and the C700 EVF available. I'm guessing the C200 will also have an audio cable port that allows the standalone XLR input to be used. As much as people complain about the cables on the C300 II, the unattached monitor and audio inputs do have the benefit of allowing you to put those units anywhere you want.

All we can see in the picture is that XLR input 2 is on the rear panel. Do you think the XLR 1 input is up on the carrying handle or right side of the body, ala some DBeta and Betacam cameras of the past? Hope it's on the body and not the handle.

It's on the body. Look at the second pic that shows the back of the camera. Look on the right side up top. You see the same plastic cover than on the back side where the XLR 2 input is.
Also, it seems that there is only one external cable and it's going directly to the monitor. It seems realistic that the XLR 1 input is located on the right side (upper part of the body), that way the XLR cable doesn't get too much in the way.
But I already hate the monitor cable. I think that 90 degrees connectors would've been much, much better.

Unless these are fakes, it is confirmed. The C200 is here. Guess Canon didn't decide to go with the shoulder mounted mini C700 form factor. Bummer. Those of us with Franken rigs will have to still keep using them. Zacuto and Wooden Camera will be happy. I see SDXC slots, nice. It does look like a baby C300 MKII. Look at the second picture. User detachable EVF?!?! That would be a first for Canon. I can't imagine them NOT having HDMI on it but who knows?

Well, every survey Canon has ever sent me, I said get rid of HDMI and put more BNC/SDI connections. I still say HDMI has NO place on a piece of professional video equipment.

On the second picture the viewfinder is removed ,so it seems its removable to make the body more gimbal ready???

I wonder if the cfast slot will be for 4k only and the sd cards for the rest just like on the xc10/xc15

It seems that on the second picture (backside) that the round centre part of the body (with all the buttons like iso, shutter, etc)protrudes more as on the sideview picture .
strange......

Because some of the buttons groups protrudes more than others. We see does different groups/sections (sort of like layers) on the 2nd picture. Where the iso and shutter buttons are, it sticks out more than where the fan is. And where the peaking and zebra buttons are, it sticks out even more.
