As a "non technician filmmaker" I found this artikel from Tore Nordahl very helpful in regard to capability of HVX lower pixel numbers.

I think we have two choices:Alex Leith said:Sony are releasing the PDW-F330 and F350 this year. They're 1/2in CCD around the $20-25k mark. Okay, it's more than twice the price of the 1/3in CCD HD camcorders, but they're getting cheaper all the time.
Waiting in PAL countries means waiting for hvx200pal. Sony's f330 is already in the stores. (And it has ntsc&pal in one unit.)pete archer said:we wait fior the best...
What camera do you refer to when you say Sony s f330 is already in the store ?toke lahti said:Waiting in PAL countries means waiting for hvx200pal. Sony's f330 is already in the stores. (And it has ntsc&pal in one unit.)

Thanks for the clarification - but I think 16 k is bit pricy plus I am fed up with the treatment and service I have gotten at Sony.toke lahti said:PDW-F330
The PDW-F330 is indeed around $16K, but unfortunately it's the PDW-F350 which has the variable framerates (unless you're counting being able to switch between 60i and 24p as "variable framerates"). Unfortunately, the PDW-F350 is $9,000 more than the PDW-F330 - and the only differences between the cams are the variable framerates and HD-SDI out! To add to that, Graeme Natress has stated that the variable framerates in the PDW-F350 above 30fps actually drop the resolution of the recorded frames in half, because it is a 60i-based camera and it blends the interlaced fields to record the faster framerates. If that's not misleading as heck, then I don't know what is. Still, the PDW-F330 looks like a really promising camera for only $16K, and that's list price... it's bound to be cheaper on the street.CineAlta said:Sony has a big, full-color, foldout spread in this month's (March) issue of American Cinematographer, on the PDW-F330, for indie filmmakers. 1/2", HD, 24p, variable frame-rate, XDCam (optical disc). I think it's $16k.
Did you see the Barlow's experiences@720/60p -> 24p? Where was the difference comparing with variable frame rates@acquisition?Haakon said:The PDW-F330 is indeed around $16K, but unfortunately it's the PDW-F350 which has the variable framerates (unless you're counting being able to switch between 60i and 24p as "variable framerates"). If I'm not wrong -- I think I'm not, it isn't a problem to change to DVCPRO-HD, Cineform, JPEG2000 or even uncompressed HD, of course, after to provide the transfer via 35megabits as native bit rate from the camcorder.Anders Holck said:And you need the $9500 PDWF30 to ingest material without the camera....
True, but needing a separate deck from the camera isn't as crucial as it used to be as you're not wearing down tape heads when you access the footage. Although a spare deck would be nice to have, I don't think it's a necessity with a format like this.Anders Holck said:And you need the $9500 PDWF30 to ingest material without the camera....
No, the prices are body-only.mico said:Is the lens included in this price for 330 or 350?

Not at the version L but at K that was announced only to the F330 package. It must be $22,000 or something around. $16,800 to PDW-F330L and $25,800 to PDW-F350. IMHO, the $9000 plus to F-350 it just justifies to the future HD-SDI workflow with the devices that will be around the corner. But not by now as affordable and portable solution. Otherwise, despite green screen work, CGI or something like that, if we will have a clean image with rez & high def, decent colors, latitude and a good behaviour@exposure, DOF, focus and many settings control, for wth we will need adding bit rate. That's like to go out every night with sun glasses...mico said:Is the lens included in this price for 330 or 350?
His cam: XL-H1. Unfortunately, there isn't link 'cause it's his default Apple user account that he has been used during 2/3 days and generally not more. But if you PM him I'm thinking he will be nice as usual and as great contributor as he also is. Try it: here he is just «Elton».Haakon said:No, I haven't. What camera was it? The HVX? Do you have a link? Thanks buddy.
Sorry Anders. Today, I didn't sleep yet, so I'm a little bit out. Now I already follow you. But, as usual, I agree with Häak. If it confirms the 35megabits transfer from the camcorder, to indie production it's OK. And it will be better rather to have a 2nd generation from HDV tape.Haakon said:True, but needing a separate deck from the camera isn't as crucial as it used to be as you're not wearing down tape heads when you access the footage. In this case, the camcorder will be really "the" portable deck.Anders Holck said:Or if you want to pass the footage to a place that doesn't have a deck.
