Argh!

Eh... I don't think it's that similar... M. Night's is clearly an elevator button, which I don't believe yours is supposed to be. I've always thought your symbol reminded me most of the Safari icon.

Yeah I know. Our logo definitely has meaning within the film. You will never get the meaning without seeing the film, or maybe without unlocking some of the Transmedia content we're planning on rolling out come Jan.

But another goal we had was to create something so simple and iconic that it could be easily recognized anywhere. Like when I was growing up, they used to say the sign of a good logo was if you could draw it on your PeeChee folder. Think about Coke, Nike, things like that.

We wanted ours to be recognized even if it was stenciled with spray-paint on a wall, in which case the colors might not be there, but you would still get the shape.

I just added a post to NEW BREED, the workbook site I blog for, about why we made certain choices about THE LOST CHILDREN. Kholi had asked for this earlier in the thread.

Pretty interesting, Mark. Naturally, I'm curious as to how it's going to turn out for your team.

I can definitely say that I'm one of the scared creators you've talked about: I'm not willing to, at least not right now, explore a different sort of fictional narrative. Like you, I'd have to have a very very very compelling and original story to tell, and like you said... it's hard already trying to walk the traditional path!

Haha.

I'm in on seeing what comes of it for you, and 2011 is right around the corner.

Will stay updated

So am I. As I say in the piece, I am not going to do this with a bunch of someone else's money. I was simply looking for ways to stand out from the crowd, and maybe get in on a current wave in entertainment(Transmedia), and get some notice that way. Since Transmedia is such a buzzword, and will be going into 2011, if we pull a good campaign, it's likely that that will translate into press and audience who might not have known about us otherwise. If this is successful, then I might approach investors with some wacky ideas.

And I want to stress again, even though there are some differences in format, you will (hopefully) clearly recognize this as a standard 3-ACT movie, with motivated characters who want things and perform actions to get those things, and the whole bit. You're not going to be watching (hopefully) some incoherent "experimental" film.

One more thing to add here. We've spent a lot of time on the StoryWorld, or Story Bible. Because ultimately, along with the script, I think this is where our value lies. A world of characters and things that someone might purchase from us down the line and use to generate more stories.

And I think that is my goal with this: eventually sell the IP to someone with the resources to really exploit it.

Need some opinions on making fake timecode. Is the FCP Timecode generator good enough, or should I go with something else that looks more authentic? What else is there? How do people do this?

Mark, you mentioned that "Hollywood" is trying out Transmedia? Or did I read that wrong somewhere?

If that's right, can you point to examples? I've never heard of Transmedia and the only property I know of that got really involved with websites, etc, was Cloverfield.

FCP time code generator is fine. And a lot easier than going out to motion and back. There are a couple of options on how to implement it too I believe.

Hey Mark, is there a post or a list somewhere of all the Lost Children viral links? I would like to visit them all. Also would be great to have articles and such listed in one place too.

Well, LOST(same people as cloverfield), also, there is an online game...mystery thing for the new Abrams film 8MM. It's just an old computer terminal on your screen... Anyone know that link?, TRON, STAR WARS, these are all major Hollywood Transmedia properties. IRON MAN 2 did some stuff.

LOST is a little more along the lines of what I like, where they kind of bring things into the real world. For instance, you were able to buy an Oceanic ticket through one online travel agency. I'm sure they didn't charge you, but the agency doing that was a cool transmedia marketing tie-in. And they've had tons of Dharma stuff, web sites, added videos, etc.

Brukheimer just started a company wholey devoted to developing Transmedia stories. And I personally know two big players in the Transmedia business who are doing some major deals with Studios right now.

It's got a couple of definitions as far as I can tell. One is comic books, novels, web series, etc. around the movie. The other is the kind of blurring real life/entertainment stuff. It's the second one I'm most interested in.

I am on some client work right now, but will try to get back here later with some more.
