The longing look (550D)

Hey guys,

I wanted to show you the short we produced over the last 9 months: The longing look (or in German: Augen Blick, which has a double meaning. On the one hand it means "the moment" and on the other hand "the meet of eyes"). All was shot on 550D + Tamron 17-50 F2.8.


Story: It is early evening. Like every weekend many people rush through the city. A bit apart a young man is sitting on a bench starting to draw a picture. Repeatedly he looks up to portray a young woman standing on the other side next to a tree. She seems a bit lost and looks down the street as if she would wait for someone. Their eyes meet...

looks really good. you really make that cheap lens shine. :) I have it 2...just hate the short focus on it.
 
Everything really came together nicely, from the story to the camera movements and the music was just right too. It also doesn't hurt to have the beautiful European backdrops and scenery! Looks amazing! I liked the camera moves you did, very high production value and also how the dream sequence was warmed up color-wise and then returned to a cooler look when he was jolted back to reality. Very well done!

Yeah, pulling focus is pain with this lens... But there isn't really a comparable cheap lens.
 
Some great cinematography here. Could you share as to what jib and slider you used for this. Well done.

We used the ProAm DVC200 jib which is very good for it's price, I think. For the dolly shots we used the EazyDolly and as slider the IndiSlider Mini. Still though in most cases I had to stabilize the shots in After Effects but this actually works very well.
