A notoriously troubled production (over-inflated budget, racial controversy, death of a crew member, etc)... finally has a teaser trailer.

This one is getting some downright hostile reviews, 16 percent right now on RT. The consensus is that's it's no fun, tonally all over the map, and ridicules the legacy of the lone ranger series.

The sad thing here is that between this and John Carter, Disney has spent over half a billion on two films with no discernible audience or demand.

Cheers.

I haven't seen it yet but so far I"m not liking the spoofs of older series. I haven't seen any that are truly entertaining. I'd rather see a serious updated treatment instead of some satire.
Green Hornet was pretty bad. They played it for laughs like it was the old Batman TV series and I thought it was a flop. Seth Rogan as Green Hornet? I was willing to give it a try, but it was awful. Green Hornet was a bad ass not a bumbling idiot.
Same with Dark Shadows. They went for campy instead of real horror and that one also fell flat, IMO.
looks like it will be a lot better then that crappy man of steel movie that was very disappointing.
ouchI saw the Lone Ranger movie this weekend, out of desparation (don't ask). And it's as bad as people say. Woefully in need of a story, and an editor. It looks like they came up with the final set piece and tried to build a movie around it, but still couldn't justify that set piece.
On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 4.
I guess my take on it, without seeing it, and seeing the trailer, is that to put Johnny Depp in the role of an American Indian, in an age when we have solid American Indian talent, seems a pathetic joke, carrying on the whole traditions of racist stereotype that American Indians have long suffered under. No attempt to actually have an Indian playing an Indian, and it seems that the whole thing is even more a joke than the original Lone Ranger was. At least they had Jay Silverheels! I think folks ought to see the great film that really tackles all this Euro-American stereotypes in the most amazing storyline on this subject ever..."Even the Rain".
