Posting here because this was all about the GH4 production for me.
Watched THE REVENANT Saturday, and thought to self, "I want to film in the freezing cold snow, with my GH4", so planned a half page of shots, squeezed in an IRREVELANT plot, and shot 4 hours Sunday morning in snow, and below freezing temps. Nearlt got frostbite on extremeties, and almost fell down a 30 foot ravine (probably shouldn't have gone alone, no)
Used only my Canon 10-22mm with .64x speedbooster to try to get super wide shots.
Also had planned to use VLOG internal all the way to help capture the bright dynamic of white snow detail and white sky clouds, but did a quick test and grade before heading out, and VLOG failed me HORRIBLY. Trying to sqeak back out the detail in all white snow and color grade made the dark snow greenish, and everything got banded and 2-bit looking. Went back to nautral and it worked just fine with contrast at 0, and highlights at -5.
Several interesting plugins and CC tricks were used on the video to get the look.
Also, forgot my ND so I had the lens at F14 and that is not its clearest setting. Shutter was 180 but usually less, sometimes down to 144-ish (ALWAYS bring ND, especially in white out snow!)
All the voices were recorded from the built in mics and came through beautifallly. 90% of the rest of the audio was added in post.
This was a completely solo project, done with in about 24 hours, so dont expect too much!
My goals here: make something funny, film in cold bad weather with GH4, widest possible lens, have fun with post audio environment creation, keep it a 1 day project, maintain some detail in snow and sky
