The Ideal FCP timeline settings for 24pN to various outputs

We are wrapping up a 70 day shoot in AK and have been shooting the majority of our footage in 24pN with a couple of clips overcranked at 60to24p. The expected output will be to SD for DVD and TV distribution. We would also like to obviously have an hd version as well for festivals and future hd dvds.

What should our timeline be in FCP? 23.98 or 59.98? Any other settings we should be aware of?

Thank you.

Just did a 720/24PN gig that I edited on FCS with a timeline setup of DVCPROHD 720p24. I am outputting for SD DVD. Once I have everything edited on the 720/24 timeline I'll just down convert for the DVD. It really takes no more computer muscle to edit the 720 than if I down converted before editing. It also saves time going into the edit.

I will point out that I did not have any overcranked material to deal with.

I hope that helps.

We released our SD DVD in May and about 50% or more of it was shot in 720/24PN, and allot of that footage was shot in 60fps. The rest of the footage was DV or HDV from before we got our HVX's and all of that was converted to DVCPROHD 720p24 in Compressor or MPEG Streamclip.

Editing on my dual 2.7 G5 was no problem at all. Just about as easy as editing DV footage. That's why I converted everything to DVCPRO HD for editing. The DVD we released last year was edited with HDV footage and that took much more time for rendering and down converting for an SD DVD.

Here is a thread I posted that has our DVD trailer:
