Ok so my worst nightmare happened the other day.. I mainly film skiing and snowboarding so its only natural for me to feel comfortable carrying the camera while skiing. I am a decant skiier myself so I am normally just as likely to drop the camera walking as I am skiing, so its not like I was running a higher than average risk for me. But on saturday I was filming this competition on a 55ft jump and I practiced hitting the jump a few times to get the speed right and then grabbed the HVX with my 16x9 fisheye and got my rider in line. We hit the jump and everything seemed right until I noticed my rider went way too fast into it. He overshot and crashed infront of me right as I landed off the jump, I hit his ski and got sent out of control toward some trees and ended up falling to save myself from hitting a tree and potentially killing myself. While falling I dropped the camera and watched it go tomahawking down the hill, and I really mean it tumbled atleast 40 or 50 feet down. I hit some branches and stumps sticking out of the snow but that didnt matter, my baby was laying in a heap covered in snow. I ran over and got it, blew all the snow off of it and took the battery out and prayed. In the end it was ok, the viewfinder doesnt go all the way down and it lost a piece from the hinge to the LCD. But after it dried out I got back on the horse and got the shots I wanted! Thanks got the HVX is so tough!
