The HVX is only for private use?

I just found this passage in the HVX manual (Copy and Paste was blocked, so I made a screenshot):

hvxcopyright2ck.gif

What the hell do they mean with that? So if you shoot for a living, where do you buy a commercial license?

thats funny...lol. Nothing to worry about, just a funny joke thrown in by some funny guy.

I saw that too, I didnt think much of it. Look, if it was the case, Funny Video show would be violating so much copyright you can't imagine hehe

It must be referring to shooting copywritten material, like a stage play of 'Death of a Salesman' or something.

I think that's exactly what they're referring to.
Just basic CYA legal stuff on Panasonic's part - I can easily see people saying "hey, I shot this stuff so it's mine"

That kills my plan for pointing our DVX at the TV this Sunday and then rebroadcasting the big game. DAMN YOU LAWYERS!!! Always one step ahead of me.

Hope they don't have a law to stop me from describing the game play by play to someone. :undecided

It's just a (wise) legal protection. Can you imagine some examples of copyright violation? Piracy@movie_theater, for instance. Thus, nobody can sue them for its manufacturing.

That is what I was thinking. But they do not talk about copyrighted work, they mean it in general.

Hey, guys, where did you get that HVX manual? Is it online somewhere? Thanks. Someone sent the link for Japanish manual but is there a english version also somewhere?

This is in every manual that is put out by the company. It is not put there as an insult but as a reminder. And while I can't imagine anyone that I have sold a camera to would violate copyright, I have not met them all, and this statement protects Panasonic from liability. I mean you could set up your own Telecine and make a copy.

As an example there was a company that had about 600 Pansonic VHS machines, and they were in the business duplicating and selling bootleg video tapes. The FBI busted them. If that statement were not in the manual, Panasonic, could have looked like an accomplice.

Anyhow, it is a matter of policy that it is there.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Best,

Jan

I'm not up on US legal language, but the wording of the statement seems totally wrong. To me it suggests that Copyright law restricts even one's own, original footage from being used for anything but personal use.

The second sentence makes sense though.

I see understand why it's there, but I think it needs rephrasing.

There is another location in the doc that says :
"Unauthorized recording of copyrighted television programs, video tapes and other materials may infringe the right of the copyright owners and be contrary to copyright laws".

Also having this in the manual is useless except letting user know that it is illegal.

Normally anything that is written is in the terms of usage / Agreements sheet that come with a device is what is part of the legal usage of a device. Normally it written to read the agreement before usage on a sticker that seal the camera.

The statements I show at the top make sence, the second one doesn't... EXCEPT That they do not specify country, and in some country you might require a special permissions ? Anyway, they should have been alittle more clean with their statements. Unless ofcourse it a joke or a bad translation ;)

it's the obvious type of thing that has to go on all products in such a litigious society.

Has anybody seen the label on irons that reads, "do not iron clothing while on the body" or something like that. Crazy. :)
