The Food Network...

Woah -- I thought I was alone in my Food Network watchingness. I like both of Alton's shows. He's a local guy here in town and I'd love to get hooked up with his crew and do some production. I think the campiness of Good Eats is perfect, and so far FOAsphalt is great as well. Gotta love the US Map on a C-stand!

alton is pretty good sometimes. Rachael Ray I like too. We were just in Hilton Head, SC and stop at a little place she ate at on $40 a Day. The food was good, but it was a little local place and I thought here camera crew did a great job making the place look nice.

I'm sitting here watching FOA right now and he's in indiana trying to get honey from a tree. I just watched the DP put a litepanel or type of led light that looks just like it on a cam to stick in the tree with what looks like a sony dvd cam

They use LOTS of different cams for AB's shows... he likes to put cameras in weird places. I believe their A cam is now a Vari. The guy who edits the show is a frequent contributor over at Tucows.

First of all, Rachel Ray is insane. I mean, really insane. I have heard the straight dope from some folks who work on the Food Network.

Second of all, can anyone identify the cameras that Alton Brown is using on his new Asphalt show? The primary seems to be HVX? And, then, they give him that small DVR to carry around.

Any ideas?

My wife loves anything food network. It gets annoying sometimes, but she can cook some damn good indonesian food for my skinny ass :) My personal opinion, one of the best single episodes I have seen on the fn is an emeril show with him and bobby flay. That was cool. I do like alton as well though i must admit. And I did see on his new road show on the episode where he broke his collar bone was either a 100b or an hvx.

OK. I thought that their primaries were either DVX or HVX. What about that little handheld that they let Alton use and tape onto a stick and what not?

I am trying to figure what a good second camera would be and this program meshed their footage really well.

i have seen a palmcorder strapped to his bike. I have also seen the dvx or hvx in a shot on the same episode. And i once saw dvx or hvx that he was operating handheld shooting some footage of someone stirring something

I saw several shots of a large camera as an "A" camera like maybe a varicam and at least one shot with the HVX since I could see the "P2" on the side and the red "HD". In other parts I have seen a "B" camera shot from the deck side that I couldn't be sure of. When they get to the last show, I could see an HVX getting some of the sunset on the beach b-roll.

Here is a photo on their website:
