The Food Network...

I was just watchin Alton Brown on His new show "Feasting on Asphalt" using the dvx as his handheld cam. Anybody else seen this show?

Actually, no...he IS like the Bill Nye of cooking. And that is what I like about his show.

I love to cook, but I tend to think very scientifically. So his show enables me to better understand what I am doing when I cook and that in turn helps me improve my ability to put new recipes together or know how to go about trying new things.

Maybe. I dont like him because of the annoying gags that play. Like in the sushi one, that guy at the counter. He couldnt act, and Alton reacted badly. And then the end bit was awful. And the whole time-period machine thing.

pto, dude, at the end of the day it is a cooking show.

I agree with Larry, I love how he actually tells you what is going on in the food.

I watch the food network all the time but he is one host i cant stand at all along with rachel ray but for some odd reason i always end up watching thier shows any way.

That's EXACTLY what makes Good Eats so good, understanding WHY you're doing things, not just blindly following a recipe. I built that smoker he had using two terra cota pots and a hot plate. Works great!

If you remember Bill Nye he wasn't a superb actor. I don't think he will be winning an Oscar but he remembered what he said. Another good thing about Alton is that he doesn't normally just suggest people buy expensive cookware. If he knows a way to get it down on the cheap he surely will.

I recall the show where he was talking about frying chicken and he said not to put the chicken in the gas over after you cook it because of the moisture in the gas and it will soften the breading.

Wow I suddenly feel good, I thought I was the only guy who watches the food network.. I love that damn Station.. I can watch it 24/7 no joke..

Callaghan I agree with you Bobby Flay takes the gold, Paula Dean the Silver and Iron chef the bronze. But I do miss Boy meets Grill, loved that show.

Honorable mentions: Michael Chiarala(spelled wrong) How do you think the Winner Guy Fieri's gonna do as a new host.. I think his awesome.. ok. sorry for Thread Jack.

I dont care for the newer production of Good Eats, though I like the show. He went with 24P for a while which IMHO is a mistake for "to the camera" shows that feed off the energy of the host. His newer episodes use a high shutter, looks to be about 120 that again, IMHO, is the wrong treatment. If he wants that look he should go with 30P but that would be a serious issue for Europe.

For the record the first 3 seasons of Good Eats were all shot on a Canon XL1 as the main camera.

PS the best produced show on Food Net is Everyday Italian, great production

first yes that Italin show does look better don't know what its shot on. but way to many Close ups . but i think the later Good eats have way better direction and I love the stedicam shots, and the Goofy gags at lest make it difrent.

How old are those pix of Rachel? Last time I saw her, she had chunked up a bit. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I like Good Eats (I'm a cook, so I find the science engaging).

Bobby Flay's show makes me hungry.

Giada Delaurentis makes me hungry and horny.

Rachel Ray...meh. She's cheap anyway (never leaves a tip).

I was gonna say the same thing about the closeups. It's like watching a cooking movie sometimes but the image does look great.

Im an Emeril kind of guy, myself. People dont like him for talking slow and wasting time. I dont think so at all.

I love the style of Good Eats and I love AB... I just think that kind of show is more suited for 60i. Everyday Italian looks to be all Varicam and I love the tight cinematic insert shots.
