The final week (Status Report)

Brandon Rice

Distributed Producer
I'm rushing to finish the score with my composer. All effects are finished, and picture is locked. Waiting on the final piece(music) to make this thing work.

Well, I had an excellent piece to enter. But with 20+ visual effects shots left to finish, I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen. I really wanted to enter this time too. Sad.

I'm scoring two films for sci fest, in this week. I have recieved the cut for one, which will be done in a few days, and the other I am getting in a day or two which will leave 4-5 days max to write the score. :) Busy.

Good luck to everyone!

-Chris

Mine is complete crap, couple of days of shooting done, but we've lost a ton of actors, locations, have been rewriting as we go along, and well, it's just crap.

I'm going to submit just to get that sense of completion with finishing it, but I'm not happy with it... It's really bad.

1st cut done. Gotsta diddle some of the CGI a bit, but no biggie.

The final edit...? Maybe tomorrow, if I play hookie from work. I really am sick, so it's not really a lie if I call in.

Definitely have to cut and cut and cut. It's not as snappy as I'd like. Damned amateur actors.

Well, I feel all you guys pain. It's a tough job (making films). I am pretty confident I can cut this thing to 6 min. No credits, no titles, nothin' It's gunna be a bare minumum. Also, when are we going to get some info on upload procedure?

It's make or break on the CG tonight... Also gotta write a hellavu score soon (been experimenting with instruments)... the edit's chugging along, though. Oh, but I don't have the weekend open because a friend is getting married down south... darnit.

I think 'hurried' is the word.

So briceman,
I guess you dont need that shot? If not thats cool because I am swamped with changes on the animation i am working on and I will probably be working through the weekend.

I have some foley to do on my short and if Chris can get to my piece i think thats about it besides make a quick title card and record the song my daughters made up for the DVD ending credits. I look and feel like cr4p working all day and night and then squeezing in the short on the few free days Ive had.

Good luck to all and hope we have the turn out we did last time!

Yeah, no worries. We worked it out. Thanks for the offer though!!! And good luck:thumbsup: , it sounds like you are swamped!

Finished the fine cut a little while ago... Brian has been tweaking sound, trying to clean up some of the raw location sound. VFX done. Titles and credits done. Color timing done. Now all we have to do is squeeze the score in on time. We may be giving the score for the fest the old college try, and then laying on a different score for our own purposes. Only time will tell. Good luck everyone.

Three FX Shots to go, then mixing begins, followed by a final CC (which I don't think will be a big deal, I pretty well shot it the way I wanted the color), so it should all be good.

I'm very pleased with the way it's turned out. This is my first attempt at doing anything with a high number of special effects (read "high number" as more than two). :)

Well, I've got my film cut down to 6:26 now. I'm almost there. Still trying to retain somewhat of a cohesive story.

Panic attack, here. My computer choked on the render. Too much going on.

I worked around it, clever boy that I am.

I'd just like to note the battling urges within me.

I can't wait to see all the entries, so I want Wednesday to hurry up and get here.

But... 29 seconds to trim, 6minutes of score to compose, 50% of the cg left to complete..... Wendesday is a bulldog who's eyeing my hamburger...

Get back you fiendish deadline.

Well we are going to make it .
Now it 's going to be hard to put this together as some of the Sequence scenes no longer make sense due to the lack of Snow and the rain .

I am 45 secs short of 6 min . Might try and add some footage this weekend .

Good luck to ALL !
Ian

Well.... I still have some more to trim (about 29 seconds). But, tonight I'm here at my composer's house workin' with him on some more music, and in the meantime, I'm cutting together a fun little trailer! So, most everything is done, and I am happy! WHOO!

WCS - Love the Bulldog comment on Wednesday's deadline and your hamburger. Funny stuff!

Aram - I'm right there with you as far as pushing yourself too hard. I've been staying up 'till 3:30am on average, getting less 4 1/2 - 5 hours sleep. Last night, when I WAS going to start post again right away once the kids were to bed, I instead spent until 12:30am loading all kinds of songs onto my wife's iPod. It's her birthday today, and she's been BEGGING for an iPod ... so when I gave it to her - looking like it'd never been opened - I wanted her to have a bunch of music already on it, so she could take it to the club with her this AM after dropping the kids at school.

Brandon - for your title just throw a cool temp one over your opening footage. For your credits, just do the one frame trick at the end ... if you're entering with a QT6/7 file, it'll end & stop on that last frame.

I believe I've got most, if not all of my SFX done ... just need to work on the 5.1 mix now for the DVD. In addition to 1-2 dialogue tracks for each talent (5), I've got at LEAST another 10 or so tracks for all the other SFX tracks, LFE (bass for the 5.1 mix), etc.

Working on the compositing of the VFX that are being done for us, and waiting for the final score ... which so far has been coming along wonderfully with regards to how it sounds. Doing all our CC testing now to.

System's choking some already ... can't wait until I bring in ALL the uprezzed footage.

Finally got the editing done, now to sound fix and visual effects... oy vey! Such a tight shoot! Good luck to all, as I'm sure we'll get little sleep in the final week.
