"The Fight Within" (coffee's boxing film) Private Screening for first 15 PM's

wow, you're the 1st to have an overall negative review of it. Only 5 or 6 guys have sent in their reviews so far but all have been good.

Anyway, thanks man. I appreciate your time.

In intimate scenes like that, that's generally what is used

says who? just because its typically what you've heard in films before? Are you simply trying to re-create what you've seen/heard before by other filmmakers?

I'm not asking the questions to be an a**hole dude. I'm simply trying to spark a little conversation here, get the feedback flowing. I'm not taking pot shots at your music or the film..... I'm just trying to create some critical feedback. Better to here it on dvxuser before it hits the world.

and I never once hinted at using electric guitars, loud drums and screaming synths. You're jumping from pitch black to lilly white..... theres a "grey" area in there bud.

coffee, I stand by my assesment..... take it for what its worth. Its only one mans opinion. Good luck with the film.

No, sorry, what I meant was:

What would you have different. For example, in an intimate scene...what is wrong with piano and strings playing a soft simple theme?

Are you simply trying to re-create what you've seen/heard before by other filmmakers?

No. But I'm learning. Arn't we all?

Let me say that I love this film, I loved working on it and I hope to make a short film myself like it one day.

The most important thing would be that I didn't feel like I was needing to make a statement with the music. Jay's work was enough for me, and I just wanted to enhance in a subtle way, what Jay and the actors were giving us. hence, soft piano, strings. Anyway, back to the film itself I think. The score isn't the important part of this film. ;)

I think it worked perfectly. I loved the music, Chris.

As did I. Just on the score - it never felt intrusive, it never took my attention from what was happening, and it did play the drama up at exactly the right points. Exactly what I would be wanting.

theres nothing "wrong" with it....... I dont adhere to strict rules

I just feel that the typical orchestral/classical/traditional sounding music often associated with large budget films doesnt work well here

ah, don't worry about it. everyone has their own opinion.

by the way, the bedroom music didnt bother me as much as the music that was played when Ray was beefing with his boss

the bedroom music actually wasnt too bad.

Ok Jay... Just finished watching it again... Here are some comments... and take them as my signature says... lol.

Story & Script: This is probably the weakest part of the film, but hearing the backstory on having solid script, etc. makes me understand why. I think the story should have been more linear, and I was not keen on the flashbacks when he was on the mat.

Acting: I actually really enjoyed most of the acting on this one. I think the lead actually did a VERY good job. Some of the wife (gf?) lines seemed forced to me. I also thought some of the trainer's lines felt a little forced, but that's being nit-picky.

Lighting: Wow, some awesome lighting in this film. I'd hire you as my DP for sure!

Cinematography/Shot Selection: Some of the shot selection was odd to me. I am not a fan of the 35mm adapter still... And I do think this film would have been better in spots without it... just my opinion.

Editing: I think some of the editing could have helped make this a more linear story, but overall your dialogue cuts were tight, and I really enjoyed the pre-title sequence.

Score: Wow, Chris did an awesome job with a nice subtle score that really adds to the film. Nice work!

Overall: Nice little film. Glad you finished what you started and shared it with us! Now go make another film!

Hey James,

On behalf of Jay who is probably getting some well deserved sleep, the film is about to release. Pretty much the last thing left is score revisions which I am making now, finishing tomorrow hopefully.

It will be online soon, on it's official website, which is being put together now. You could try sending Jay a PM for a preview screening. :)

Really liked it. Really inspiring.

I would change one thing: the flashback. It seems like the flashback has two parts. The first part is long cuts, almost mini scenes; the second is quick cuts. I'd go with just quick cuts. They make the point and keep the momentum going.

Jay,
sorry I missed your original posts here, otherwise I would have definitely jumped on the pre-screen bandwagon. I'll be watching for the site/film to go live. Can't wait!
