The Fall

So, any opinions? The film seemed to be some gigantic canvas for the director, I really enjoyed it. Recomend it for anyone to see, Plus i love those old stunt scenes at the end of the film, from all those old vintage films, man those guys were nuts.

But visually that's gotta be nice to have that type of power to say I want an elephent swimming in the ocean, it was very artsy I loved it.

Nice images but it got boring real quick. I saw it with 6 people and we all kind of thought the same. If there is an oscar for Location Scout, whoever did it for this film should get it.

i thought it was ok. Got forced to see it again and i really really liked it. Was surprised it got alot better the second time.

Really? I enjoyed every second of it, it looked great I want to go see it again, what did you think about the little girls acting, I thought she did a really good job, there's very few child actors that I think can act, such as Victoire Thivisol from "Ponette"

Looks very amazing visually however I can see how that kind of story could get bogged down... I hope to see it soon but who knows if it will play here.

Visually, of course, it was incredible.

I sort of agree with Mark though. Story didn't do too much for me. I liked the characters but something about it didn't add up to be something that I thought about for much time.

I went with 3 other people and they actually loved it. None of them really appreciate film and I assumed they wouldn't think much of it, but it was the opposite.

Yeah, I liked the kid. I kind of felt like the images dragged it down though. I mean, the director wants you to stop with every shot, take yourself out of the story and think: "That is the most amazing image EVER!" And if every shot is "the most amazing image EVER" it gets tired to me. Calls way too much attention to itself. After a while I was like: "get on with it."

Also, I felt like most of the images were pretty empty. Pretty as they were, they felt like a lot of perfume commercials to me.

I liked the humorous bits though, like "I had my fingers crossed." :)

Overall, I gave The Fall a very solid rating. I was lucky enough to catch a cinema that was running it, so my girlfriend + two other friends (who are some of those "pretentious" film buffs you'll find on rottentomatoes.com 24/7) made a day trip out of that and the Cleveland zoo.

First, the film is generally visually arresting. I was so impressed by shot after shot. I, for one, am glad Tarsem Singh (none of this Tarsem minus Singh crap) enjoys LOTS of top space in his wide shots. There are a great deal of things I could say about the look, but I'm a little tipsy right now and am feeling lazy.

My one gripe: the balance of the writing was a little off at times. Some scenes were cute and whimsical, while others were heavy-handed and dramatic. That is a good thing, but the two were not infused as often as I would have liked to see. The back and forth from reality to the mythical reality of the story the characters are improvising is almost seamless. It is only the reality of the two main characters that lacks a consistent build and release of tension at times. Again, this does not happen often as most of the story flows smoothly.

I don't know. It's flawed in a few ways, but that did not stop me from enjoying this film immensely.

I saw this film last night, and honestly probably the most beautiful film I've ever seen. I like the post before me where he describes it as "visually arresting". I was honestly watching it and couldn't get the goosebumps to go away. I was even smiling and chuckling sometimes during a few shots. The B&W sequence at the beginning was simply stunning as well. As far as cinematography goes, it's on top to me. I can agree that it almost pulled you out of the story since you were so taken in by observing the shots, but personally that's what I enjoy the most, secondary to being engaged into the story itself.

The little girl I thought was magnificent and I loved her expressions and body movements itching her nose during dialogue, and how sometimes you couldn't even understand her, it made it all the more genuine.

I felt there could've been a bit more character development on everyone's part but the littler girl, but nobody's perfect. Overall it's my favorite film by far in 08

Wow, this was the most beautiful visual film i have seen in a long long time, trully breathtaking & a touching story that worked for me on many levels, took me away from the mundane humdrum of the real world for a couple of delicious hours. The girl I thought was perfect, I don't see how you can get bored with such a stunning feast of imagery, it needs to be seen on a big scale - maybe i just got carried away as I recently bought a projector, but this made me realise I can't watch films on a tv anymore - I've not seen anyhting quite like it before -& I can't say that about many films these days
