The Expendables ! I can't wait.

I'm a little less excited as the reviews come rolling in. Not that I expected this to get great reviews, as it isn't exactly awards bait, but it's still dispiriting. I expect it to be fun in the way a bunch of aging musicians playing cover tunes is. You applaud more out of nostalgia, and amazement that they can still pull this stuff off, not over the actual skill of the execution--

Saw it tonite and I have to say that this movie was really bad. Well, the final battle scene was decent but it cannot redeem this mess of a film.

The music cues in this film were completely over to top and bordering on annoying. For example, the scene with Willis, Stallone and the Gov had music cues for every piece of dialog in the scene; not to mention the horrible editing of that sequence.

IMO the film might have been much better if it was played tongue in cheek (i.e. Grindhouse) where everyone, including the actors were in on the joke. Not necessarily a comedy but at least know what all these guys are gathered together in this film for.

Statman and Li did a good job in the film and Stone Cold was a believable goon. The plot was ridiculous and I never understood Stallone's motivation/goal in the film and the scenes with the dictator and his daughter play out like a bad mexican soap opera.

Probably should have went to see Scott Pilgrim instead.

Just got back from the theater. It's ****ing amazing. Really.

I'm surprised no one here has commented on the 7D product placement in the film.

Lets face it ,it never meant to be oscar worthy material , im going to see it no matter what just because it has such cast in it,this trailer should be used as original one but music should be changed:

Dont be like that guys we know that its not top row stuff and we knew from beginning.

Unlike you to post such a short review without anything to back it up Brandon.

I enjoyed the film, because I like older action movies. To me, it was a homage to all the 80s/early 90s action movies that I loved. Was it a technical masterpiece? No. Was it the best acted action movie? No. Were the effects sometimes downright terrible? Yes.

Did I still enjoy the testosterone filled ride? You bet your ass I did! It was good, action hero fun. Not the best plot-wise or with regards to pacing...but it was fun. I wouldn't see it again in theatres, but I'd certainly rent it/buy it, watch it on TV.

Maybe my brain just has certain categories it places movies in and while this was not an Inception category, it definitely wasn't bad in my books.

It was EXACTLY what it was supposed to be. How can it be bad?

Correct. It hit ALL of the checkboxes. Not sure how you could dislike it if you're fan of the genre.

I particularly liked that they emphasized the age of the actors.

Plus, they flew the bigger brother to my avatar's plane. :)

I can't believe THE EXPENDABLES is competing for a razzie.
They mention it together with The Bounty Hunter, Clash of the Titans, Grown Ups, Jonah Hex, Killers, The Last Airbender, Little Fockers, Sex and the City 2, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Vampires Suck and Yogi Bear.

Seriously?? How did The Expendables get on THAT list??

the razzies were funny the first year they did them. now it's like having an uncle you see once a year and he always tells you the same joke.

The Grumman Goose (sp?)

Damn I loved that show.

What?????????????????

There is no way that The Expendables deserves to be on that list. Holy Crap on a candlestick, they might as well put all the films that came out this year in the Razzies.

Not that Predators deserves to get a Razzie nomination, but I thought The Expendables was a lot more fun and re-watchable than Predators, which had a great concept but should have done something better with it.

Just watched the film and it was so poorly made and directed.

Sad sad misuse of so much money.

Defend it as being true to a genre, but it's quite awful. The little attention payed to eye lines and the uninspired story was enough for me.

I was disappointed. It was more "Rambo 3" than "Commando", if you know what I mean... For that cast and plot to work in this day and age, the script needs to be " in" on the joke. It should've been way more fun and less serious than it was. Hopefully 2 will be written by someone that gets it. I liked the way it was shot, didn't like the script at all. And Jet Lee was completely out of character. I'm almost sure that part was written for Jackie Chan...
