FEATURE: NO GREATER LOVE - Official Thread - Feature Film

Great to hear of a success story among indie filmmakers, but this is even better: a Christian message movie. I love it. Congratulations to all who made this movie. Bravo and God bless.

Here's a BTS photo I found of Brandon , Geoff, and myself on my point and shoot camera during production on NGL.

Yeah, it turned out pretty nice! I should send a copy to Geoff, he mentioned that he wanted a copy of this photo right after we took it.

Some post production news.

Some post production news.

Well, the downside to shooting with a lower end camera (HVX) even though the images we got from it are spectacular is that we couldn't jam timecode with the sound system. Just got off the phone with the post house and it looks like for some of the scenes where the mono mix from the camera won't cut it we'll have to resync the ISO mix to the mono mix manually. I was hoping we could find a way to make that process faster, but alas no dice. I hope next film we shoot we can jam the timecode :)

That is definitely something that we need to be able to do on the next production is jam the timecode. It will definitely be helpful during post. But I have no worries Brandon, you've done a great job on all the task that has been given to you and resyncing the mixes manually will be cake for you. Just a lilttle time consuming like you mentioned. But I have no doubt that all the hard work will pay off for us in the end.

You're a major player in this whole production and you are greatly appreciated!
Thanks for all your hard work bro!

And that's the problem - you love the images coming out of the cam while the functionality of it, the higher end gizmos and ergonomics aren't there. Story of my life.

UPDATE on the conform process...

I'm at the 50 minute mark after working a lot on the conform this weekend. I'll be adding in all the channels tomorrow, of the stuff I've already done... most of the time we recorded 2-3 channels, one being the boom mic. and usually 2-3 lav. mics.

I believe the HPX170 will have time code embedded in the HD-SDI output, which if I understand it correctly, should make it possible to lock a suitably equipped (or adapted) external audio recorder to it as a slave. That would make the audio TC match the footage.

Someone will correct me if that's wrong I'm sure : )

Well!

I finished the audio conform today. Took about 7 full days of work to do. I am happy it's done, now it's in the sound guy's hands :) I know it'll sound good, and we have great audio for most everything.

Also found out today that they'll be showing the NGL trailer at the 2008 AOF Awards show on Thursday, July 31. Hopefully it'll go well!

I watched the trailer and it looks absolutely fantastic!! I'm sure the people at the AOF awards will have the same reaction. Good luck :)

Congratulations Brandon! This is a good thread, thanks for all the updates.

Brandon cranked out the conforming! Now it's off to Kappa Studios in Burbank for foley & mixing... in about two weeks we'll have the "screener version" ready for Sony... We'll see what happens.

Yeah!...Great job brandon! Thanks for all the hard work!

Just spent several hours down at Kappa Studios where they are working on our sound mix/design. It's sounding great! It was awesome to watch the film again and be able to hear all the dialog :)

I want to credit our great on set sound team, which for principle photography was Eric Burge (mixer), and Eric Lewis (boom op). They did a great job getting us fantastic production sound, we'll only have to ADR a line or two here and there.
