I think what Mitch is getting at is that SSDs have to be managed carefully in order for them to remain in peak writing condition. One problem is that the NAND gates wear out. They only last for so many cycles. So they have to manage 'wear leveling' so that the wear on each cell is as even as possible and the whole drive doesn't wear out too quickly.
Another issue is that performance of the drive can degrade as it fills up and gets fragmented. So write speeds can go down if this is not managed well. To me, that's all part of proper design. Perhaps that is the algorithms RED speaks of.
None of that has anything to do with Jinni vs RED as far as I can tell. They both buy the same chips (SSD card) and put them in a similar package. The RED camera firmware is going to do the same thing with both cards because they have the same chips in them (allegedly).
[edit] The latest video says that RED does not allow single clips to be deleted. A Mag can only be re-formated to erase it. If that's true, that lends credence to the idea that they really want top performance and don't want to risk degradation of the write speed through fragmentation.

Jarred Land owns DVXuser.
Thought he just questioned Phil, that he has a pay based relationship with RED in some form. Nothing more than that? What can he sue for???

I must have missed something.... It’s been questioned before about Phils paid/compensated relationship wit RED, why get bent out of shape now? I think everyone knows, Phil is not your average Joe when it comes to RED products and affiliation.Unfortunately, at least as far as the US goes (not as familiar with UK legal system), you can sue or be sued for pretty much anything, provided you can find an attorney who is willing to do it (or you can DIY). Whether or not you'll win is another story, but it's not unusual for the mere threat of a lawsuit to cause people to take action, if that's what happened here.
At the end of the day all anyone has to do is find an attorney to explore the idea, and Jinni has already shown a willingness to sue. (Although he's had some counsel on his existing RED case petition to remove themselves, so he may be running out of willing attorneys!)

Am I the only one hoping a sub-$5K RED camera comes out of this? :bath:
