I am guessing that this is a dig at Bloom? Cheesy :cheesy: - but hey - I can sorta see where its aiming.......

On a side note - My humble opinion of course but I have to say that this Gareth Edwards guy has inspired me more than anyone else - I have watched all his vids and he is inspiring - for free. No hype with this guy - he has just gone out and actually shot a film and it looks awesome. I saw some of the rig he shot 'monsters' on. No fancy follow focus, matte box z this or z that or bells and whistles etc. and by the way - DOF adaptor and ex3!! Great FX ( he did them himself ) , great story and Voila..........the guy just believed it could be done for almost nothing. The doing was more important than the drooling. I wish him well...

I like Philip Bloom, and respect all that he has done to popularize and educate people about DSLR filmmaking. The Zacuto shootout in particular was invaluable.

For me, I found the video funny because it seems there are a lot of people who think you can't make a good film without thousands of dollars of extra accessories. While I'm sure a lot of them are nice and they all have their place, I think visitors to this forum would get the impression that you NEED a follow focus, a handheld camera rig, super fast lenses, a dolly, a jib, etc. All you really need to get started is a camera, the kit lens, and a good way to record sound.

Or to put it another way, what would you rather watch, assuming everything else is equal?

1) A great script, shot with a T2i, a kit lens, and a tripod?

2) A script that is pretty good but not great, shot with a 5DmkII, a complete set of Zeiss prime lenses, tripod, follow focus, matte box, dolly, jib, slider, skater dolly, etc...

Sometimes I think this fact gets lost in the shuffle to buy more gear. YMMV.
