The Dreaded Church Of Scientology

Wow...that music really adds to the creep factor.

No kidding! That weird music was driving me up the walls with suspense ...

I'm in LA, but I don't have a DVX [yet]. Mind if I bring a crummy Canon ZR80?

What would be cool is to have like a hundred people lined up in some Matrix camera shot at them. BUt you have to be wearing jump suits and Nikes though.

Hey rgdfilm when you guys in LA decide to do it post the date and time on the post. So us guys from out of state can come.

Careful. The Snark may very well be a Boojum.

after doing all the research I did, most of what is on the net is pretty damn accurate.
You mean all those photos of TC, Pookie, and others that are always being posted in the Cafe section of the board are TRUE? :cheesy:

Earlier WaveRider asked a question of who would be liable if that guard knocked the DVX from rgd's hands. Since he's on the job I do believe that his employer would have to take responsibility for his actions because they are paying him for his actions. I think they would also have to pay for the guards hospital bills after rgd went crazy and dropped a car on the guards face. I mean no one can be held responsible for what they do after someone knocks a DVX from their hands. Its kind of like hysterical blindness.

you know what sucks?

I used to dig Katie Holmes.

....she was seen spotted coming out of one of those places recently. :(
I gotta' figure out that brainwashing technique so I can get hotties like her.

Dude, that rocks! You should have your own show on the Comedy Channel. Or one of the Discovery channels!

Anamorphic? Squeeze mode?

Anamorphic? Squeeze mode?

Hey man, great job. Really slick pacing, it felt like the f'ing bank robbery in "Heat".

Quick question, did you have the anamorphic adapter on your camera for this shoot? How'd you shoot this? Thanks, Ben.

That was a poor example of documentary work. You are pretty much antagonizing the subject. He made a reference to you calling him a jerk earlier- so why wouldnt he confront you. Showing us the time is an irrelevant reference due to already having interacted with the gaurd once. Now if you timed the first meeting then we could understand your point, but you didnt. The second gaurd was more interesting to watch than you and your work- If anything it seemed you were more upset about being photographed than he was. The vebage between you two shows he was trying to take a good picture of you and you wouldnt let him, why not?

Also I in no way support Scientology or am intrested in it please do not hide an answer behind me being so. Im intrested in good documentry work, which I lack to see here.

Scientology and Mental Health

Scientology and Mental Health

I read this thread with interest. I enjoyed some of Hubbard's sci-fi books, and I am very familiar with Scientology. (By the way, someone mentioned Christian Science in a post - that is a completely different group. They believe in faith healing and do not believe in modern medicine. Some beliefs overlap, but very different, too.) No I'm not into it - I'd say I'm a follower of any non-dual belief system. I love Ken Wilber.

I'm the CIO (IT Director) for a group of mental hospitals, and I'm familiar with their beliefs that psychiatrists are evil and are part of the government's scheme to control the population. They are behind many lawsuits against mental institutions and drug companies - including the claim that Prozac causes suicides. They are definitely a fringe group. They aren't the only group to not trust modern medicine.

However, I'm concerned by the tone of this thread, personally. I can't help but defend the underdog. I wonder if we should stick to critiquing the movie and less an entire religion. I'm certain there are a few Scientologists visiting this board. I believe some are really great people that got some benefit from it.

I'm into comparative religion, and find the differences interesting. I don't want to minimize this group's extreme behavior, but they haven't always be completely wrong. For example, it turns out maybe (and I stress maybe) Prozac does create a higher risk of suicide in very remote cases...

Let them make their case, is my attitude. Any investigation they have asked of our facilities has been a nuiscance, but we follow the JCAHO rules, which keep up plenty prepared to defend our mental health institutions. At least they care.

Sorry this is so long... But are we going to do an expose on Mormon's next? They believe Christ appeared in the USA and had a following amongs't the indians. That's pretty weird to some people...

Sorry, don't mean to be a downer :)

First of all this wasn't a documentary. This was an experiment. Seperate the LABEL from the piece and you have something that stands on its own legs. Documentary, non-fiction, whatever, they all have a stigma attached to them because they are labels. This was a social experiement. I let it go where it took me..., of course its biased, of course its subjective, its it own thing and shouldn't fall under the traditional narrative doc because thats not what i was aiming for.

Thats semantics- beyond the "doc" title what was the experiement? Like I stated above you are timing a second encounter which sorta of defeats the purpose. Plus these guards IMHO didnt seem to aggressive and the first guy said to just not film him never stopped you from filmimg the building. This overall was weak DVX preformance and feel that honestly was a waste of time to watch.

Please enlighten me on the experiment aspect of this piece?
