Really, really liked the "Wheeled Workshop" piece!
Stellar work. Bravo.

(not to say the DOME stuff isn't great too!)

One tip- if you don't mind- a standing POV is all good for the observational aspect of doing a doc.
In this particular piece (Wheeled Workshop), bringing the camera down to waist level for some of the footage would have been very beneficial.

If you've never been stuck in a chair for locomotion you don't know how dramatically different your view of the world is.
As some of the folks in the piece were wheelchair bound, just dropping the camera to waist level (their eye level) produces a dramatic and engaging perspective for the viewer.

[it's easy to do with the top handle and flip out view finder]

Just to tweak it a little more- put the camera on one of the chairs while it's rolling around.

Mind you- these are TIPS, not criticisms. It's a fabulous piece, in many, many ways.
Dare I say 'award winning' material.
*maybe the tips get stored in your databank for a future shoot like that.

As for the DOME material- excellent all the way 'round.
I particularly liked the first part "Voltaire & Emille" (high brow, fun, and nicely illustrated.)
"Baby" (clean that lens man!) Great (again) illustrative and poignant piece.
"Lost Soles"- neat. Cut it a little tighter; lead and lag action to get more pace.

Are these for cable cast promos?
Just curious about the use after they're done.

Needless to say- keep up the great work!

oh yeah- ONE DAY?! That kicks butt all by itself!
(no apologies for it being a 100- you did really well with all three pieces!)

NoNoob,

Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad you watched the other videos on my Vimeo profile, as well as the DOME stuff. The wheelchair POV idea is great, and I'm totally kicking myself for not doing some shots like you describe. Next time!

It's funny how people react to the three Dome videos. Opinions of which is most successful vary wildly, depending on who I show them to. I agree that the Lost Soles is the least polished of the three, but the director loved it. She thought it was the best one, so I didn't touch it. Whereas my wife agrees with you that the Voltaire one is the best constructed and shot, and yet the director had us re-edit that one a bunch. Different strokes.

Since all the footage for the three videos was shot in only 5 hours or so, we only had a limited selection of cutaways and angles. If we'd had more time to plan it, we could have easily shot double the amount of footage, especially for the Lost Soles one. But they could only pay us for one afternoon of work. ;)

These videos are for web delivery. As far as I know, there are no plans for cable or broadcast delivery. I doubt that a non-profit theater company like this one would have the resources for something like that.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words!

OK, so I put together this montage from the show:

The DOME - Montage

The audio is a little rough, but it was the best we could do with one microphone mounted on the camera. Anyway, it should give you all an idea of the type of production. Still running through March 1st, if anyone's in NYC!
