"The Doghouse", A funny jewelery ad.

I gotta say, this gave me chills. Chills because my anniversary is Monday of next week and chills because it is so well done. Brilliant short film on it's own, even if it is a jewelry advertisement.

Some sharp agency and a director behind that one.

Thanks for the find!

Brilliant! The equivilant of a mulit million $ advertising campaign for vitually nothing-
because everyone will forward the link to their friends. Kudos to JC Penny.

This is where it is going, because it works so well, jump on board!

The ad was well done, but it is the type of ads that drive me crazy!!

I hate the cliche 'woman has husband by the balls' scenario. With that being said, the compounded fact that the husband is an idiot and the woman is so shallow that a high value material possession will make things right is absurd.

Perhaps my personal sentiments, but this cliche is in many commercials... especially jewelry ones.

I guess I am just upset by the pathetic half truth that materialism in our society can break or mend one of the best non-materialistic gifts we have ('love'... for those who are not keeping up.)

Talk about a segway! pheeeew!

Ryan:

You'll never make it in the commercial business ;-) You know the truth.

You have to remember that almost all television, other than sports, in the U.S. is created for women. Women statistically rule television with a few small niches left over for guys and kids so it makes sense that the "woman smart/man dumb" school of ad writing is still prevelant, you have to sell to your target audience.

Same with conspicuous consumption. In a way, the current Depression 2.0 is very sad and a bad time for our country, but a part of me feels that it is a great kick in the ass/reality check that we have been needing as a country. It will be so great if people can only consume what they have cash for, not leveraging their lives, families and second and third mortgages for a bunch of useless crap that nobody needs, then declaring bankruptcy and starting the whole cycle again. That is insanity. We need to earn money, invest and save, not buy the latest stupid Blackberry, video game, 70" plasma, Escalade, etc. only to use it for a year, sell it at loss or give it away and do it again. Consumerism has run amok and its because we are lazy, greedy, stupid and shortsighted as Americans.

The American Way of Life needs to change, this current mess is just the prod we need to hopefully make the change.

Dan

Firstly, we aren't anywhere near a depression. Secondly, please take such sappy and nosensical ramblings out of my thread.

You wanna piss and moan about how we as a country buy and or shopping? Live somewhere where people would LOVE to have the things we get access to.

Get off your soap box. It's just an effin commercial, and a wonderfully put together one at that. THAT was the point of my posting it, not so unhappy people can make unhappy and derogatory and misinformed comments about the USA and her people.

Jesus.

Dude, chill out.

I said I liked the commercial (production value, etc) but I didn't like how it perpetuated a very sad american stereotype.

I think I (and those after me) are entitled to our opinions despite it being 'your' thread. I also think you are entitled to your opinion, which I wish you would have made without necessarily attacking those who feel the opposite.

I am not an unhappy individual, as you presumed, but rather someone who cringes thinking that my future marital relationship could or would ever be as superficial as that.

Don't post a commercial and think that we won't look beyond it's production value and examine the content, meaning, and subtext.

I wish you the best, and meant no personal harm to you, the thread starter.

I wasn't talking to you Ryan.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion and to comment on what is beyond the production value. But the post I responded to was WAYYYYYY past any of that. It was nothing more than his opinion of our society, and had nothing at all, nothing whatsoever to do with the commercial. Not one thing, other than to expound his opinion elaborated from your post.

I don't like the "man/husband is an idiot" type of commercials, I probably hate them more than most. But this was more a very creative and well executed production to the point I didn't even think about that aspect once it got started. It was just great storytelling.

If people want to comment, fine, but is it unreasonable to ask the comments be at least related to the subject material in some way, and not second generation social commentary?

Jesus.

Okay Matt, you got it.

But you need to censor you taking Jesus' name in vain in your response, it's offending me.

What's good for the the Goose...

Kind of makes it pointless for you quoting it though, I can't censor your posts.
