DVtec DVRigPro and The HVX

I'm looking at different equipment for my hvx and found Jarred's article on the DVtec DVRigPro.

It seems to be a very good product, but I would like to know if any of you have used it with the hvx and if so, what do you think? Also, how would you recommend using this rig with the 7"Marshall monitor (I don't see how you can mount it on this rig-maybe on the camera itself).

What do you all think?

Used it on 17 or so MTV "behind the scenes" and "making of the video" spots. It works great. I wouldn't mount the marshall on there. It places the 3.5" camera LCD close enough to your face that you don't need any further eye relief. Adding an oncamera light is easy, since you can clamp the light's battery to the weight-bar at the back of the unit.

You should also consider the DVMulti Rig and determine which is better for you. I have both and have used both in differing shooting situations. They are both solid pieces of gear and support the HVX even with mattebox and rails.

I've used the DVRigPro with the HVX many times, and it worked great.

I've looked at the DVMulti Rig because it's lighter and packs up nicely. But it doesn't have the counterbalance on the back, so maybe it places too much weight to the front? Ned, could you give us an assessment of the advantages/disadvantages of each one?

The DVRig Pro has a counterbalance on the back, as you indicate and that allows for excellent balance during a moving shot.

The MultiRig is extremely versatile and much more portable. It allows a number of different configurations depending upon one's needs and comfort. The "fig rig" mode created by turning two handles up rather than down can allow for some very steady shots, with practice.

As Danny has pointed out to me, the most stable part of the body is actually the stomach, so by utilizing a spring rod with a belt-pod, both products add to stability.

If the camera has a lot of weight on the front, the DVRig Pro does an excellent job of balance owing to the rear counterweight.

The MultiRig adds the versatility of configuration and also of accessories.

I find myself using the MultiRig now more than the DVRig Pro mostly because of its portability.

What about the PAG Orbiter?
I went to EVS the other day to try a DV RIG PRO and they steered me to the PAG.

Unfortunately, they didn't have a DV Rig available to try at the time so I don't know how they compare.

What did you think of the Pag?

Pag is a great tool IMO, it mounts and stays on handsfree, because it has straps that go over your shoulders and connect behind you at the belt. It also has a swivel head so you can do a full pan without twisting your body. The DVrig derives its movement from the body mainly not its own pivots. I love both machines, and think they are both well-crafted. :)
