Anyone buying a Canon XH A1?

Yeah, that's why I posted: This way, you can research, and see if the break or exemption in your area applies to you.

I can promise you that I won't leave you hanging.

Whatever happened to this group buy. The first guy got all reved up and went away. A second guy came along and wanted to start it up again and he appears to have gone away to. I do not know what the point is of people saying they are setting up group buys if they these folk are not servious, cannot pull it off, cannot deliver on good pricing or just give up and end up buying at B&H or some other off the shelf internet seller.

There are a few places selling them for $3600, and one as low as $3538 (see other threads). Waiting to organize a group buy for $3500 wasn't worth the savings to me.

Sorry, that's true. The price of the camera have dropped so quickly to around $3545-3600 everywhere. Looking for the $3500 group buy just wasn't worth it.

i got mine for $3629.80 shipped(2nd day) at B&H. expecting it early next week. hooray!

I think somewhere the desire to get the best price through a group purchase got lost. The goal in December for the group purchase was to get the camera below $3500. Coffee bought his camera in November for $3500. Currently several ebay sellers are selling between $3400-$3500, including kit add ons. Now people are claiming they got a great deal at $3600 or settling to pay $3550 as that is "good enough". All have paid higher than Coffee paid when the camera first came out in November. For me, $100 to $200 is not chump change that I like to leave on the sidewalk. Seems to me if this camera could be had for $3300-$3500 people are settling to over pay to forum vendors and overlooking the benefits from a large group purchase.

Actually, as King_Dontae mentioned, $3300 is below dealer's cost so it's highly unlikely that an authorized dealer will sell it for that price. The ebay sellers are selling theirs for cheap but you should know that most of the "accessories" that they include are just junk that you never want to put on your camera. That's assuming you got lucky with a decent vendor and didn't get suckered into buying extra stuff.

I got my FX1 through an ebay vendor and at the time it seemed like a huge deal ($3200 plus wide angle, telephoto lenses, tripods etc.). When I called to confirm my purchase (always a bad sign) I got talked into "upgrading" to the "made in Japan" model (of course there's no such things as ALL models should be made in Japan). I ended up paying $3400, which is not too bad as compared to how some of the other people got suckered and I got the cam in a timely manner. Well, the wide angle and telephoto lenses were crap and unusable; the tripod that came with it broke after a week of use; the battery casing broke after a month etc. The only accesory that I actually still use is the hard case.

My point is that the reason people are so happy to get theirs for $3550-3600 is because they know that they'll be getting exactly what they pay for, when they paid. Can you get the cam for a lower price through ebay or other dealers? Probably. But if something goes wrong you're going to wish that you paid that extra $100-200.

I think the purpose of the group purchase is being overlooked. The objective was to get better than street pricing from a reliable authorized vendor who would be willing to cut a volume deal for a large number of purchases. If the one off price is $3550-3600; a group purchase should be able to do better.

As to a dealer cost attributed to King_Dontae. I am not sure of the basis for his declaration as it is very hard to identify true dealer cost with freight, payment, buying group, and dealer incentives and allowances. I can only note that B&H is currently selling the HV10 for 25% off of MSRP. If we take King_Dante's representation of dealer cost of the A1 as being >82.5% of MSRP his declaration of dealer's cost seems a bit askew.

Its a rather academic discussion at this time as the group purchase is dead and it is each person for himself. As was pointed out, comfort is to be had in dealing with known reputable dealers.

The group buy got a quote of $3500 per person. No one was ever quoted a lower price.
