My replacement GH2 arrives from Amazon tomorrow. If it has the slightest hint of banding or other sensor nasties it will be heading back by return.

In fact, it might head back, even if it's as clean as a whistle - low light performance from the Nex-7 seems to be something that Panasonic can only dream about.

If ever a camera was worth waiting for, surely this is it?

No wonder Panasonic are dumping the GH2 - I fully suppose that they're running about like headless chickens, trying to come up with something that will compete with the Sony.

Sadly, their track record has been very poor - always noisy, always exhibiting sensor issues - and never admitting to problems.

They've been the only game in town, so far - but now we have a choice, and I think I know what the sensible choice is :cheesy:

Been moved to the DSLR general discussion.

Please think before posting, this seems like an obvious call out for a flame war, but was simply moved to a more appropriate place.

Good luck with that. If the nex 7 is anything like the 5n you're going to have worst headaches with banding than you ever would have had with your gh2.

Of course it wasn't a 'flame' post.

Is this how *any* criticism of Panasonic is handled by GH2 devotees?

If so, I think you'll soon be moving an awful lot of posts as the Nex-7 becomes increasingly avaiilable.

As someone who has owned Panasonic 'G' cameras for over 4 years - and who has seen first hand the abysmal quality of their 4/3 sesnors - I feel that I am justified in drawing attention to what is, seemingly, a much better alternative.

This seems a bit of a silly post.

why?

I think you wil find that the Nex-7 will absolutely decimate GH2 sales.

Panasonic obviously think so too - hence the end of the GH2 (despite earlier Panasonic assurances that there were "no immediate plans" for a GH3, and that "The GH2 is selling very well"

Obviously, 'Yes' - there are plans, and 'No' - the GH2 is not selling well (hence the increasingly discounted price) and will sell considerably *less* well in a couple of months when the Nex-7 becomes widely available.

Do you have proof? Because tHis sounds like complete nonsense to me, and an attempt to start a flame war.

Your responses to such also point in that direction.

Please, keep the peace and let's not try to start any(more) unnecessary brush fires.

If you're waiting for a NEX7 in the UK you'll have a long wait, as according to Amateur Photographer news (On the forums) the floods in Thailand have caused Sony to postpone indefinitely plans to release the '7 in the UK, and, I think, in Europe as a whole.

Might be worth looking at the NEXN5, but I don't think it's a GH2 killer, but could kill the 550D

In photo mode I am more or less sure that it will be better than the gh2. But as we are on a video forum, the 16 megapixel nex 5n resolution, moire/aliasing are clearly inferior to the gh2. Now competition is good, because the gh2 can be had at $ 700. So go Sony, Pana, Canon, etc. slug it out to give us better camera at lower prices. The OP post and response really look like a flame, can't understand how people must react like this. Is there no better thing than posting these kind of post. He is telling us he is getting a gh2, just tell him to send us some photos and video of it before he returns it.

It's a failing of mine - a chronic inability to be humble in the presence of greatness.

I posted it to the Panasonic forum, Henry, not to start a flame war, but because [1] I'm a Panasonic owner and the comparison is natural, and [2] because the GH2 and the Nex-7 are close competitors for market share.

If I sounded a tad triumphal it's probably because I could finally see an end to the sensor issues that have affected the GH1 & 2 (both of which I've owned)

What's more, I'm fairly sure that I won't be the only one finding a new church in which to worship ;) - so *many*, *many* posts from disappointed DVX'ers who have asked what to do about 'Fixed Pattern Noise', 'Vertical Banding', 'Horizontal Banding', 'High ?ISO Noise', 'Strap Lugs That Fall Out'...etc, etc, etc......

The Nex-7 is just a camera - and hardly important in the great scheme of life - but it is a very good camera (or so the tests indicate) and will offer an escape from the purgatory that is Micro 4/3.

If I was a betting man I would comfortably wager that within six months the Nex-7 will have supplanted the GH2 as the camera of choice for low budget DSLR buyers, and will have its own forum here that will be filled with the very people who currently venerate the GH2.

One *might* think that the Nex-7 would be very good news for GH2 owners - but obviously not.

If I might paraphrase the Christmas message...."The people who dwelt in darkness have seen a great light - and the Chief Priests immediately chucked a bucket of water on it, and sent it off to the wasteland of DSLR General Discussion" :cheesy:

My thoughts... I have earned a living with much lesser quality cameras that the GH2.
If you are not able to deliver a quality image with any currently available modern camera... It's not the camera's fault!

If you want to talk about a camera, talk about a camera.... starting a thread off in a different camera's section with "the death of x camera is announced" is just silly and non-productive, and exactly the kind of threads we want to discourage, not encourage.

We need productive discussion here, so people don't have to sift through 10 pages of **** to get to actual information. Camera comparisons don't have to be emotional either.

Thanks. Please try again.
