The Dark Knight

Brandon is actually betting on it in underground gambling rings. If The Dark Knight doesn't make 15 mil this weekend, he loses a finger.

k i just watched it and i have a question. spoiler alert if you havent seen it, skip my post.

you know when they all get on boats to leave the city because the joker warned them that if they stay they'll have to play his 'games'? and one boat was full of prisoners and one regular people?

why did one boat have prisoners? like as if they'd let prisoners just leave town, even if they were well guarded and being xferred to another facility. i'm sure i must have missed something obvious here but i'm really curious.

either way, one of my favourite parts what actually the moral dilemma those boat passengers faced. it had me excited, and wondering what i'd do in their shoes. loved that. oh and the film was pretty good overall too heh.

Gordon explained that he wanted to get the prisoners off the Island. After all, Dent was responsible for putting most of them away. He wasn't sure what the Joker was up to. Remember what happened in Begins? :)

Story-wise, TDK was probably pretty good. I'm not a great judge of stories though. I'm an actor, so that's what I'm focused on when I'm watching a movie. TDK was pretty flat, performance-wise, which is why I didn't care for it. It was also poorly cast and that's probably why there wasn't good chemistry between Eckhart and Gyllenhaal. Heath Ledger did a decent job, but the other performances just weren't there...

Hey Tom

Curious as to your spin after reading the post

Who are your TOP 10 Actors (of anytime) ? (May have to start a new post)

Hey John, I'll have to make a list of my top 10.

I'll tell you some of the actors on the list are Billy Crudup, Johnny Depp, Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall, Sean Penn.

I've got a few honorable mentions too.

I think Michael C. Hall is doing a great job with Dexter.

I think James Franco is a great actor too... possibly on my top ten. I saw him in "City by the Sea" with DeNiro and there was great chemistry between the two of them. I honestly believed that Franco was DeNiro's son in the role and it had a real grittiness to the relationship.

I'm curious as to how Tom rates Bale as an actor.

I thought he was great in "American Psycho". I think Bale is the type of actor who needs an actor's director to really bring out a performance from him.

I think his choice of the voice in the Batman series is a bad one. That really took me out of the moment when watching both Begins and Dark Knight.

Other than the voice thing, I think he played the part well, especially as Bruce Wayne. I think Michael Caine slightly overshadowed him in the scenes between the two of them though.

Wow. Like the movie or not I haven't heard anyone say the performances were flat before. That's....um....interesting.

I thought Oldman and Ledger were both fantastic.

As for the mention of Franco in the top 10.... I'm shocked. While competent, I don't find him exceptional at all. It's good that he has a sense of humour though.
While watching his dramatic scenes in this clip I had to laugh. Same expression in all of them. :)

I thought he gave a very good performance in "City by the Sea". He does a decent job in the Spiderman films, but his parts are sort of one dimentional in those. I haven't really seen much of his other work to really say what I think of him. That's why I said I might put him in my top 10... if his other stuff is as strong.

I have to say, I haven't seen him in City by the Sea. I'll have to check it out.
I do see him as a fairly one dimensional actor though. Maybe that will change.

Still, I think your comments on Ledger and Oldman are off base. Oldman's scene with Two Face was right on the money. I know you didn't single them out, just basing this on your general comment.
