The Dark Knight

I think they do. If they hear a bunch of chatter about something (IE, Ledger's performance being Oscar worthy) they're going to nominate him, not out of love of his performance, but for the publicity for it.

Again, MY OPINION

Good point. We will all have to see his performance then someone can start a thread on whether or not it was Oscar worthy.

Cough Cough Dick tracy Cough Cough
Batman Begins was nominated cinematography last time so....

The academy DOES care if it's a comic book movie, though. Nomination: not likely.

You never know. Johnny Depp was nominated for playing a goofy Keith Richards pirate. Plus the Joker's a psycho. Hopkins and Bardem won Oscars for playing psychopaths (Lecter is especially over the top).

It's possible. I just don't think it's likely.

I definitely think this one will be possible. I've seen two revered critics speak of Ledger needing a posthumous nomination and maybe even a win. Everyone has been blown away by his performance so far (and the rest of the cast as well as the film itself).

I'm not saying they aren't. But I would put money down that if Ledger were alive, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

His performance looks good. But Oscar caliber? Please.
I disagree. A few people were saying that same thing even before Ledger had died. Nolan had said that Ledger had given one of the best perfomances he had seen. This was around the time people were questioning whether his Joker would be better than Nicholson's. So the Oscar buzz has been there for a while. Its just escalated now that he is dead.

For all of you dying to see Dark Night, you can fill that time with Gotham Knight. It is an animated feature containing 6 interlocking stories that sort of take place between Begins and DK. The art is pretty stylized, but I enjoyed it pretty much all the way through. I'll even go on record as saying I wish it was the Batman we are getting in the theaters. Way better than Nolan and Bales version.

I was that close to buying that today at Secret Stash on Pico. But right next to it was all 6 of the Macross series on DVD for 5 bucks each! talk about anxiety. I went with Macross :)

At Comics2film.com, they are giving away a copy of Gotham Knight. I found this out just after I bought it and watched it. Some days...

Bought mine today at best buy 2-disc set. :) Can't wait to watch it tonight.

I just finished watching Batman Gotham Knight. I thought it was decent. Very short on the total runtime and, to me at least, didn't really have much meat to it. Some of the Bruce Wayne stuff kind of adds a bit of depth but then the short is over before you know it, and the big fight scenes are over in like 5 seconds. Would have been nice to see at least one short with the Joker too. It's similar to the Animatrix set which I found to be a better collection.

One lonely Fri night last month I was flippin the Channel and landed on the Cartoon Network and "Batman VS Dracula" came on the screen...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472219/

I said to myself, what the Hell..? I'm not watching this mess, glad I changed my mind, it was well made, I was surprise... it had the Joker and Penguin in there, check it out... don't judge it by the title..lol and oh yeah it's a Feature.

But back to the Thread... I CAN't wait for The Dark Night... where in the hell is a Delorean when you really need one.

Can't go wrong w/Macross. I'm waiting for the Macross Plus movie english dub; I thought the voice actors did an amazing job.

Anyone else psyched that Kasdan is penning the Robotech movie?

Yes I Am. Tobey Maquire is producing and Starring last time I heard. Now If we could get All-Star Blazers and G-Force/Battle of the planets I would be happy. A little Wave Motion gun and Some Whirlwind Pyramid could'nt hurt.
