The Dark Knight

I may be up for that. Tommy and I are actually going to see it in Burbank tonight (non-IMAX) but I'm still going to want to see it in IMAX.

I'll PM you later with my phone number.

First off, as a potential catwoman, but second, I'm just done with her. She is so overexposed and overrated at this point. Plus she looked like hell in Wanted. Mr. and Mrs. Smith was one of the worst films ever, and she didnt help.

I'm just over her. Nothing special to see there.

Actually, I tought "Catwoman", while not a good movie by any means, was not as bad as the press said. It was watchable- Better than X3, for example. Now that's a stinker...

As for Jolie... I was one of the group of millions that said/thought "She has my vote for sexiest women alive" three years ago. She just hasn't aged well. Her face has grown "angular, and she's nowhere near as good looking as when she took that photo posted in this thread. Ok, how about Megan Fox? :) (Not sure if she can act, though, which Jolie as proven to be quite capable of doing...)

Back to TDK, just briefly, saw it for the second time tonight and it does not hold up at all.

Maggie is worse, the audience laughing every time Batman talked made it worse, even Heath seemed very underwhelming.

Brandon... I pass on Sunday. Something else, another time... if you exist.

Yah, the Dark Knight just sucks now!

Or is it the in thing to move away from the masses as the movie breaks every record in the book?

On my second viewing I actually enjoyed in more than the first time.

Yes. Because it is entirely impossible for a film to not be enjoyed as much on subsequent viewings.

Yes. I'm just trying to be accepted by all the highly irrational people that dared not worship the movie.

Some movies can be watched over and over and never seem to change or get old. This was stale 5 minutes into the second viewing.

I agree that things can get old. I just found it odd that it went from "awesome" to lame so quickly for you.
I thought Heath was brilliant! Even more so after the second viewing.

I agree about the voice thing. That will probably really grate on me over time.

Cheers!

LOL. I agree. I was more surprised than you. And it's sad.

I think what happened is that I went in with the hopes that this would finally be a really good movie this year (which has been a HORRIBLE year for movies) and it was the best so far. (Best live action. WALL-E was much better overall.) So... I saw it and it rocked, but on second viewing it just fell apart.

Believe me... I WANTED to enjoy it. I even walked into the theater telling Tommy I was going Sunday with Brandon, also, but as soon as the credits rolled I told him there was no way I was going Sunday.

But... I think that is a HUGE test for what movies are really good and those which are all flash.

Maybe I was riding a wave of Batman-fever when I first saw it and now I'm off that wave. Maybe you are STILL riding the wave but haven't fallen off yet. Maybe it's an entertaining flick that will not survive the test of time, or maybe it will become a classic. I dont know. I do know that I have seen many "classics" (cally) and many films that are universally considered "great" and those all hold up over multiple viewings. I just know that this didn't, for me.

Neither did Begins.

I saw this film twice and enjoyed it even more the second time. All the criticisms I've read here are mostly superficial (the voice, Maggie's face), or a reaction against the hype (it's not the greatest movie ever made). This film works and is resonating with so many people because it has a thematic integrity missing from most action blockbusters. The film is actually about something more than just explosions, and that something is examined from multiple points of view and taken to a conclusion. You can quibble about superficial bullsh*t but that's missing the big picture. The big picture here works like gangbusters.

Titanic was a phenomenal hit which won a lot of Oscars. It still had a poor script with corny dialogue, and DiCaprio was sub-par.

Point being, box office and critical accolades don't always add up quite to the sum of their parts.

There are things about this movie which simply felt wrong to me, and I had trouble with several significant plot points.

You can disagree with me, but "superficial" is not an accurate characterization.

I feel the exact same way. But, I am too lazy right now to fortify my opinion. When we left the flick my girlfriend said "that was freaking phenomenal" but I got the feeling it was more because she thought that was the opinion she was supposed to have rather than actually being swept up by it. By the time we got to the car, no one was talking about it anymore. What does that mean?

I loved the production design and many other aspects of the film. But, to be honest, when the credits rolled and the lights came up, I couldn't help but sit there thinking, "eh. it was aiight".

I guess I gotta see the movie one more time before I really know what I think. In 10 years, this movie might still be considered a brilliant flick or just one of dozens of blockbusters that lose their luster after the hype has died down. I guess time will tell.

SPZ, I completely respect your opinion. And, I don't want this thread to become an Angelina debate. I just find it so facinating how subjective opinions are based on the physical or charismatic appeal of a person. Again I respect your opinion. To me though, she hasn't lost a flippin' step. She still smolders as evidenced by this July 2008 Vanity Fair cover. wow. Someone, PLEASE tell me I aint alone? The luke-warm Angelina responses in this thread are baffling.

To put it simply, I think it will be remembered as a great sequel (if you will) to Batman Begins.

That's just me...

I think she makes some bad choices in the films she picks. But she's stated publicly she makes films to make a lot of money in order to support the things she wants to support. So it's her career and if she wants to do big, dumb films cause they pay more, whatever. Personally I would like to see her stretch further.

but I think she is a good actress and has the potential to be a bone-fide movie star.

But yeah, she is one of the most stunning looking people in Hollywood without a doubt.

I agree with DJ. My problems with Batman were pretty fundamental. To re-name a couple: muddled, confusing and uninspired action sequences, and I cannot remember a single great, or even interesting composition in the entire film.

And like I said, maybe I just don't like batman, but I don't find it all that interesting to watch a dude who's sole power is his wallet.

I think there is something about the battle between Batman (representing justice) and the Joker (representing lawlessness) that makes this film more potent than Batman Begins. I don't mean better, I just think it will be remembered more strongly than Batman Begins.

The Heath Ledger factor seals that deal. IMHO.
I know that's probably not what you meant but it's hard to get around.

Jeez. Thanks for saying that. I was beginning to think I was living in some strange Bizarro world.

This is probably pretty accurate. Because of his death, he very well may have gone from a run of the mill A list actor to a James Dean-type legendary status. We shall see.

Having seen the film five times, I can tell you it stick with me and those I see it with. I thin there something about it I dunno what it is but I love it. I'm always one for realism and I think that in a superhero realm this finally achieved it. Reasons why I like it.

1. Nolan (one my fav directors)
2. Batman story (i'm a comic buff)
3. Bale (I really I like him and dont think people give enough him credit)
4. The Joker (psychos are way more interesting that magicians and wizards)
5. The Opening ( i love it. the pace, the cleverness, and the reveal.)
6. Two-face make-up and digital make-up (very well done. but it seems like his eye would be really dry)
7. Pace (Nolans story telling is what I enjoy he jump everywhere but still cohesiveness)
8. Story ( I like it)
9. Bat Pod (I love the reveal of it.)

I enjoy this movie and with this being heath ledgers last film you can barley see him in the role. I think it crazy.

I hope it continues to do what it has done in the box office. I've enjoyed ever minute of the film.

OMG I just saw this movie, what a let down.

I kept thinking, Batman is John McClain? DieHard 4, Terrorists take over Holloween.
