Hey all,

Just 42 hours until I order my pair of Pannys.

Excited? Hell yeah.

Ok. I know. I haven't even ordered them yet but there's a flock of butterflies in my belly and the damn things won't sit still.

Update soon.

sincerely,

ian

Update!

Update!

Today at 16:30 hours at DV Shop in Toronto.

The trigger was pulled.

Twice!

That's right. Double-tap, baby!

So. Here's what we ordered.

2 DVX100bs each w/ free 2 year Mack Extended warranty and Tiffen UV filters
2 Manfrotto 501 Heads
2 Manfrotto 028 Triman sticks. Heavy but tall. What I need.
2 Varizoom VZ-ROCK PZFI Zooms
2 Tamrac Pro 12 Cam Bags
1 Contour Design Shuttle Pro v2

Due date? Next Friday.

Excited? See the post that started this thread. ;)

We still have some more equipment to buy like a laptop for editing on the go or at work during lunch and breaks and good quality audio like a wireless & a shotgun mic as well as software upgrades and...well, there's more. We'll leave it at that.

Some might be wondering why we bought two cams. We do dance recitals and are expanding into weddings this year as well as whatever else we can haul in along with satisfying my creative muse with short films.
Two cameras are easier to edit (of course) but also I found after using a Canon XL-1 & GL-2 together that the colours and exposure didn't match and that required extra tweaking in post as well as additional rendering time in Vegas. With two identical cams it guarantees that, apart from minor exposure differences that may occur due to two different operators, the pictures will be identical.
That and a couple of years from now when HD becomes relevant in our area I'll have a better return on the sale of a pair of used DVX100bs than, say, a pair of GL-2s or DVC30s.

Whew. OK. Enough of the jibba-jabba.

Geez, I feel like I'm 8 again and Christmas is still a week away.

Hey, arielman!
Yeah. I don't think we're going to be able to participate in Hero Fest™ :crybaby:
Oh well. We'll be ready to rock with the next one. It's too bad. My brother-in-law came up with a neat little superhero script that was....different.

Lake films and DX Metal. Knock 'em dead with your new cams.

Miniman. hehe. I couldn't stop touching the camera on display at the store. I think my wife was getting jealous.

Finally, Terry at DV Shop in da Big Smoke. Thanks. For the service, the advice and the great deal that shot down everybody else in town.

More updates on the way.

sincerely,

ian

I just got mine in the mail a few days ago... its pretty. I've been tenderly exploring menus. I should probably shoot something today, hehe.

I've been reading that a lot of people on here use in camera audio with shotgun mics... I bought an external recorder with the camera (microtrack) and decided to rely on borrowed mics (they're easier to borrow than recorders)... maybe I should've invested in a boompole and shotgun instead. Hmm. Live and learn. My punishment will be syncing dailies.

Dxmetal,

I've been thinking about getting that book too.

Maybe even get Cody Deegan's book and build my own steadicam vest and arm.

Of course, perhaps my ambition is outstripping my abilities. Still, I like a challenge.

Let us know what you think of the book when you get it.

sincerely,

ian

yes, I plan to build at least a steady cam and a car mount :)

Will let you guys know what i think bout the book when it gets here tomorrow or tuesday ! :) Man next week is going to be an awesome week !!!!

I am planning and writing a short screenplay today :) Will be my very first one !

I also received Dan's book today. He went all out his way to get it shipped out from CA to me last saturday ! Thank You Dan !

The book is awesome step by step description and brilliant pictures. I believe anybody should be able to follow his instructions. I will definitely be building a Dolly, a steady Cam and the car mount !

BTW, I am looking for a tripod and dont want to spend more than $700. Right now I am leaning towards the Manfrotto 745 MF3 with the 503 head. Is this the way to go or anybody can recommend a better choice ?

The price, the (IMHO) more film like pictures, the $400 rebate, the free magic bullet software, the size and the LCD screen.

I just got my DVX100b this morning and still cant stop touching and molesting it !!!! :)

There HERE!!!!

There HERE!!!!

WAAAHOOOO!

They're here! They're here!

Can't talk.

Must open boxes and play.

More later.

I'm pretty sure that Panasonic Canada doesn't have the $400 rebate for the DVX like Panasonic U.S.A....sucks but that's life....
