The Cool Lights LED 1200

Mitch, thanks for your comments on the "other forum", LOL. I would say it will be a challenge to find a case that will hold 4 LED 1200s and their accessories but not impossible. I would look for a deep one (at least 10") where you can stand them on their sides and have some good padded dividers between them. Then need some other compartments for the lollipops, stand adatpers and power supplies.

derbrocks09, we did a test recently in my office which is about 22 feet (7m) long. Placed a CL-455P and an LED 1200 bi-color at one end and a subject at the other end. LEDs have better throw so it wasn't much of a contest, the LED 1200 lit the area much better. The flo fell off in terms of throw. This isn't surprising as we do know that fluorescent and soft light in general doesn't have as much throw as hard light. LEDs have the better throw of hard light and the large emanating area of softlight so they have some characteristics of both. I would say the LED 1200 is somewhere midway between a 4x55 and a 6x55 flo in terms of output and the LED 600 is about midway between a 2x55 and a 4x55. Fluorescent still has its place though for economically flooding an area with lots of soft light--like for green screen work, its very economical for that.

They're delayed for US stock for at least a month. Vacations and holidays around this time of year like Chinese New year really put us behind on our production schedule. Other products (like flos) we'll be shipping in the same batch, aren't finished yet. I'll update the site later as I know more about what the impact is. The LED 1200 has been shipping though to customers in other parts of the world for at least a month now direct from China.

When do you think we'll see 1200 spot and 2400 spot models? Will those be bi-color? Looking to buy new lights in the next month or 2 and have been looking at Cool Lights for a while.

1200 bi-color spots aren't so far off. But, I really try not to announce specific time frames. The minute I have in the past, then it will take longer, that seems to be the rule. It just takes quite a bit of time to put out products that people will say are well thought out, useful, economical, etc. I hope we can get some more time and employees this year to work on some of these things plus help us get existing production out faster too. We spend so much time just producing our growing catalog of existing products that it doesn't always leave time for the fun, new stuff. The 2400 will be worth the wait though when it does come and will be quite different in a number of ways.

Good idea Terry. I have the page up on Facebook under "Cool Lights USA", just need to get it integrated with our website.

hi. i've been following this thread with great interest. i'll be purchasing a camera (probably a sony hvr-z5u) soon for my corporate production business. i'm going to need a basic lighting package to use with it. i will be a one-man-band most of the time on the shoots, so light weight and ease-of-use has lead me to the idea of a simple led key and fill setup. i think the versatility of the cool light bi-color 1200 is amazing. what would be the best pair of lights for me to buy? should i get two 1200's or one 1200 and one 600? or something else? my typical shoot (not that anything is typical) would be a conference room with an executive explaining or demonstrating a product. thanks for your help, josh

Dear Richard,

When will the bi-color 1200 LED be available? I see the 600s are now available, woohoo! Any updates on the 1200 bicolor would be much appreciated. -Dustin

PS. Is it overkill to purchase 2 600s, a 256 and the 1200 bi-color (I realize you have a vested interest in selling me more lights, but I was hoping for your honest thoughts)?

Hi,

LED 1200 5600Ks are now available. Check with us at the site to see if we can accomodate for bi-colors. They went very quickly, were mostly pre-sold before we even had stock in the USA but we may have one or two left.

On the other question, its hard to say without knowing more about your needs and how much area you need to cover for what you are doing. For some that might be overkill for what they do, for others it may be just what they needed and for still others it might not be enough.

Hi Richard

Really interested on the LED 1200 bi-color, my main concern is how is it possible to set the colour temperature and then varry the intensity only so you can get the some colour temp continuity through out the production? I'm color deficient so tricky for me to do tune by eye? Also the spot LED 1200 that you are bring out will there be a diffusion panel that soften the light down to a Kino flo Diva 400 kind of light? Can the current LED 1200 bi-color flood be softened down to a Kino flo Diva 400 kind of light, or are the two very different? Also what sort of battery life is expected of a 190AH V-lock battery at full 6000k intensity?

Thanks Richard

Is there any footage online shot with the 1200 LED? I'm interested but would like to see something first.

I've got one. Won't really have anything to shoot with it for a few weeks though. It's way brighter than the lightpanels bi-color. The two dimmers do make it slightly more difficult to use, but give far more options. It also has bank switches on the side, you you can turn off entire rows to keep the color consistent

There is also the LED 1200 single color 5600K as well of course, then you would just gel to whatever color temp you want if its not 5600K. For the bi-color if you chose that, you would probably want to make some marks at the points you have it set and always be sure its set at that point each time. There are diffusion panels with spot or flood that would soften either of them up enough to be considered like a diva. Battery life isn't for sure yet as the battery interface isn't complete but I would estimate about 2 hours or a bit less with a 190AH V-Lock (or AB for that matter) battery.

Hope this helps.

You should make some video tutorial about LED because when we are talking about LED the very important thing is how powerful is it. Interview is ok but what about film scene when you need to stand it in 1,5-2 meters from the object?
