1DC: The Canon 1Dc firmware update process

I just went by Canon CPS today to get my 1Dc up to speed with the latest firmware. He described the process, unknown to me, and it goes like this:

[EDIT] I've at least temporarily removed the information about the procedure on explicit request from Canon.

With this process in place, it seems pretty unlikely that the 1Dc firmware will reach a 1Dx anytime soon. I really get a feeling that each firmware is stamped to that specific body.

Posting for no other reason than sharing the information with those who might be interested.

Cheers, James! Appreciate the feedback in these trying times: not even a day has passed and my apartment feels empty without it :)

Might also be due to today's departure of my old 5Dmk3 that i sold. Feel naked.

OK... to bring everything full circle:

I dropped the camera off 16.45 Tuesday and picked it up earlier today—after they called me yesterday afternoon and told me that it was done. It actually only took about 24 hours!

Firmware was upgraded and camera lubrication was fixed according to Canon's latest advice on early 1Dcs.

I have a CPS member number and that might have moved things along.

In HK I was able to pick it up the next day too. Very prompt.
