The Bridge

A little montage I made with the footage I've already shot for my short film The Bridge. There are a few unfinished vfx shots but they should look great on the final piece. Enjoy!

Shot on a 5D, 7D, & XH-A1. Lenses used 35, 50, 85, 100mm primes and 24-105 zoom.

Edited and colored in Final Cut Studio 3.

Did you tape off the lcd for the 2:35 matte? or did you just shoot wide? Also very nice video. You keep showing footage but I want to see the final film! :/

Spencer I just eye-balled it. I've been shooting for 2.35 for so long, I have a good instinct on how to frame shots.

thanks I have been thinking a lot about it and Im pretty sure Im going to tape it off if I ever matte. I just feel like you can nail the composition that way.

very very nice!! looks like it's pretty cliche/derivative BUT who the hell cares when it looks this good :)

Looking forward to it. I remember your actor's work from Last Son of Celeste. It'll be nice to see him in action again

Good News: Here is an actual scene from my WW2 film "The Bridge".

Bad News: This will be the last preview I give of it, sorry guys. Next time you'll see it, it will be finished and hopefully touring your local film festivals!

Very nice so far. As a WWII buff and Canon HD camera fan, I love what I'm seeing so far.

Also, you're directing of actors has gotten better (not that it was bad before), and the dude that was in The Last Son of Celeste seems to have more nuances to his performance this time. He did good in Celeste though, but this time, in the latest clip you have shown, he seems very sincere and believable as this homesick WWII medic.

The only thing I would suggest, and this is being nitpicky, but I could use a little more grain to the image. It still feels a teensy bit digital. Good digital though (SLR or Red One digital), so not a bad thing. I just think with this being WWII it could have a bit of light grain to the image. Not that you would need to go all Saving Private Ryan/Band of Brothers style with heavy grain, fast shutter, and bleach bypass. I really like that this sort of has its own look and is not trying to look like Spielberg's WWII flicks.

Overall, I'm really interested to see the final piece. Is it going to be a feature or a short?

This is great. I didn't notice any moire or aliasing besides what would normally be there through vimeos compression. My only note is that it is too clear, next time try using a Zeiss or Canon L-Series glass if you haven't already. Maybe there is a filter you could use in post to soften it up by 1%, without making it look terrible.

I used all L series lenses.

Marlon awesome work. I'm really interested in the other equipment you used. Did you use a steadicam or any type of stabilizers? Lights? Production stills from the set?

Just finished it, about to start making the festival rounds. First local than national. Having a premiere here in San Francisco July 29th.
