The best shot music video with the 7D IMO

According to one of the directors websites, they used a 30mm lens. I'm assuming it was the Sigma 30mm f1.4...

That was amazing! I loved every bit of it - the shots, the editing, the soft colours, the casting, the location, the idea. Everything! I generally don't like this kind of music but it just worked so well; the fast cuts to the drum rolls etc.

I just watched it 3 times in a row, with a big smile on my face each time. This has become not just my favourite HDSLR music video but one of my favourite music videos, period. Wow.

Wow the Hecq Vs Exillion video is excellent. I love the de-saturated, low contrast look. Nice work. They also seem like fans of Aphex Twin, which is not a bad thing either.

what an amazing music video, a perfect setting for an hdslr. i will watch it some more but i think it's also one of the best music videos i know.

it has that kind of raw energy, playground style like spike jonzes sabotage. and that means something.

As someone who this video is directed at (fan of the genre, age group...) I can say it definitely appealed.

Technically speaking I enjoyed it more :P I loved the overall desaturated style, especially as it's contrasted with a very nice bright day, gives the video a somewhat uncomfortable feel. Editing was superb once the music kicked in, and, like Oborostyle says, I liked the playground type feel of the shot selections during the 'war' part.

Visually, maybe a few seconds of it were cool. I'm not a fan of desaturating an HD 1080p camera like the 7d unless you go full black and white. This was done with basic color correction by desaturating and cranking up the whites. The only thing keeping me from disliking it entirely is the fact that this type of color correction simulates old 16mm film. As a music video, this was way too boring and the cinematography got old very fast. There weren't any shots that stood out.

To each his own for sure ... but this was definitely more than basic color correction. There's definitely an S curve going on there that was either done in camera with a picture style setting or in post. It's absolutely impossible for you to know if they cranked up the whites without asking them. If anything, it looks like they might have raised the black levels.

Personally, I thought that this video was by far the best music video on the 7d so far. All the other music videos shot with this camera that I've seen have been really lame.

great concept... and location!

I thought the editing was pretty weak actually compared to other glitch videos like chris cunningham's work, etc...

Like more care could have been used in establishing the space for the fight, the coming together of the gangs, establishing each character firmly, etc..
And the glitch editing was just lip service to how fine you can get with that type of cutting...

I actually wish I had the raw material to take a stab at myself...

But the grade, location, etc... Lovely ! Great low-con grade!!

OHhh...but I strongly disagree:

And check out Johnny Cola's stuff...

Case in point. Although I thought that video looked professional, I burst out laughing when I heard those lyrics. I'm not really a fan of any performance based music videos anyway because I think they're not very creative. The best music videos IMHO almost never show the artists singing unless it's meant for humor. Just my taste that's all.

it seems silly to base the look of the project on the shooting medium.
