The best monopod for a DSLR

The Miller monopod is excellent. But, in my experience, a monopod is not very useful for video.

You'd be surprised what they can achieve with a bit of practice. Nothing as good as a tripod but way better than handheld alone if you're looking for steadier shots.

I have this one. Folds up short, very light, extremely strong. If you already have a head, like the 701, you can stick it on top. I'm 6'3" and sometimes have to bend, but usually its height is enough.

I've done quite a bit of HDSLR video shooting off a monopod, I use my old faithful Gitzo, the grey metal version, 4 section and hefty. The old Gitzo's can be found on ebay, they last forever, its hard to kill an old Gitzo. I pretty much relegate monopod work for situations where there is just no time to set up a tpod, I'm not sure why anyone would use one if they had a tripod available and the 2 or 3 minutes it takes to set up. I shoot stills and video so sometimes I have my long lens mounted to the monopod all the time, maybe in a drive-around situation. Its not an alternative to shooting hand-held, getting the height right can slow you down with one, I think of it as entirely for long focal lengths.
